Thanks- I know it may sound funny but I don't know what you mean by rule of thirds, please advise.

Apart from video digicams and a fair bit of video editing over the years, I've only ever taken snapshots before and this really is my first proper camera, I have never studied or read about photography and post getting the Zed and becoming accustomed to the monthly photoComp entries, I decided it was a hobby I fancied having a go at and hence I've booked onto a day course on the 550D at park cameras next month to get to know the hardware. Once I have done this I will be looking at starting with a good book on photography, intro to photography using a DSLR etc-can anyone personally recommend a good book to start with to teach me all the rules, advise and introduce me to F stop etc. etc

Rule of thirds is something i use when taking motorsport pics where you leave room in front of the car so it has somewhere to go rather than out of the picture or like your pic you can see the road to the left of the car as if you have just driven along that road if your Z was facing the other way you would have somewhere to go so someone would look at the shot and imaging jumping into the car and driving off down that road.

Rule Of Thirds has a lot more to it than that but i like you even after a year with my DSLR still have soooo much to learn and to be honest am lazy when it comes to reading i like to just get out there and press buttons :D
