New buy

I am currently looking into buying a new Z4 S23i Highline. Have a test drive tomorrow, and just wondering about some of the extras. I never had a roadster before and not sure if heated seats or parking sensors are must have or good to have. Also, how good is the standard sound system. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Hello, welcome.

For me, heated seats are a must! Mine doesnt have parking sensors, but I wish it did! I have an E85, which is the version prior to the one you're thinking of buying, the ten speaker stereo upgrade is great (think the standard stereo could do with a bit more power).

You're sure to enjoy your purchase, whatever options you choose. Hope to see some pics soon

x2 plus navigation

Hi, not sure what the high line has as standard but I would suggest the heated spos seats, if you like music at all, then the speaker upgrade is an absolute must, I regret not having it every time I drive.

Heated Seats
parking Sensors

Nav is a tough one, if it's free, which I think BMW is offering, then fine, get it! But of you have to pay, don't buy it. Just use a decent Tom Tom or equiv and save 2K

As Sars said, a decent hi fi....and the exterior light pack always looks good, with the lights from the door handles....

Heated seats!!! Hahahahaha
Parking sensors are handy but I just don't trust them, there will be one time they fail and if you rely on them too much it will end in tears.
Get hill start assist if it's available though if that's what it's called!

Thanks for the replies so far. It seems I should go for the sound system and the cd changer (which is a must for me), as well as cruise control. As far as I know the hill assist is standard for the highline.
Is the heated seats recommended because of the open roof. I never had such a car and just wondering if this is theason some suggested it, as I never thought about It for other cars.
Really looking forward for the test drive tomorrow.

No need for CD changer. I firmly believe it like the casette tape......I'd be happy if my car didnt have a CD, oart from watching DVDs.....

Hill start assist is standard.
Get parking sensors but remember the front ones activate when you engage reverse :? , if you are pulling forward to something you have to activate them manually but as so many people have worried about the length of the bonnet and lack of sight of the front end then i'd +1 this.
Upgrade the speakers but to be fair the source system isn't great and i think a better radio first of all is an option to look at. Get a usb port - i didn't  at the time i didn't think i'd ever use it
Not looked at the highline spec but get the adaptive suspension, for me it' s an absolute must and makes the car much more of a drive. Heated seats - Mrs R wouldn't be without them and as i head towards my mid 40's i have to admit on a cold winters morn when the roof cracks the ice off the sills as it goes down and my breath fogs in the air i have been known to crack a smile as the seat warms up - although for the first few drives you feel uncomfortably like you may have wet yourself and not from excitement at the drive :- an unwanted feeling as you get older of things to come
Folding mirrors ok but don't open out until a certain speed and on mine at least don't auto fold in, you again have to activate manually, auto dimming mirrors much more useful. I have the welcome pack - or perhaps it's called something else but the lights come on around door handles etc, it is useful in the dark but not a must have; extended storage - costly for what you get and disappointing, think the designers were on holiday when they drew these bits up. I got a plastic hard boot liner, pics in other threads show why i did but it was money well spent. I don't have the nav package and don't miss it. Most important thing is make sure you get the colour and interior right, once you've done that you'll love the car whatever, and if i were you check the price you end up at and then see how it compares with the price of a 3.0, drive that then decide what's important on your wish list
Good luck :driving: :)

Parking sensors are a must ---- the car has limited visibility and it will save you. I almost reversed into a dumpster once at night - would have hit it were it nor for the beepity beeep.

Well funnily enough the only time that I have reversed into something and caused damage, was with parking sensors fitted! You become reliant on them and stop paying proper attention when reversing, they do not always sense small items like short posts.

Thanks again for all the advise. I had the test drive and i mus admit...i loved it. Great fun to drive and the sound of the engine is beautiful. I wonder what the 35i must sound like...
Had a conversation with the sales rep, and because of this the cd changer is off the list. For that price i can get an ipod and use the usb port. Cruise control is now added, as well as the sound system. Was not overly impressed with the standard. The heated seats were considered...but decided against it, as well as parking sensor. The parking sensor was a tough decision...but not sure it is worth nearly a grant.
With all the additions the car is just slightly over the budget i set for me...but it is worthwhile. Went for deep blue sea and canberra beige..looks like a nice combo. Was jut concerned about keeping clean..must b careful ..
Now just have to wait if ther finance guy are happy for the lease...and then i will be hopefully be a happy Z4 owner very soon.
