New Brakes - Small Upgrade

I've recently developed a bit of squeaking from my wheels and have taken my car in to my local specialist and been informed that i have 1 front disk, 1 rear disk and 2 rear pads that could do with replacing. My car is also nearing the 2 year mark of when it will need its next brake fluid change so i've decided that it's either a now or never opportunity to spend a bit of money and go for a mini upgrade :D.

After a lot of researching over the past couple of weeks i have decided on the following:

Discs - Mtec grooved - heard these are far less likely to create a sound than drilled and reviews seem to say they are good quality and well made.
Pads - Red Stuff EBC - good for 'spirited' road driving with little brake dust given off and do not need to be warmed up to get them working (and do not squeal)
Goodridge braided lines - I know brake lines do not really need changing unless the car is about 20 years old but have only heard good things about the pedal feel when reading up about these so thought i should give them a try and see what the fuss is about.
Brake Fluid - Motul DOT 5.1 fluid - seemed a small step up from standard and is reasonably priced (£40-50 a litre on MotulRBF etc seemed excessive for what i am after)

I know that some of the components are far from the best that can be had, but as i do not intend to track the car and want everyday usability and quietness above out and out performance i think these are a good compromise but should still give a noticeable improvement between what i have at the moment. I am waiting for the parts to come and the moment and will be having them fitted at my local specialist in the coming weeks. I will resurrect the thread in a month or so and let you know how i've got on just in case anyone else was thinking of doing something similar

Seems a good move.

I went for Brembo grooved disc with RedStuff pads on my Roadster and am very pleased with the end result.

Hope all goes well with the upgrade Jonny! Having done this myself, albeit with increased disc size, it's worth doing.

Just to let you know, the goodridge lines will come in a set of 4. Z4's have 6 rubber hoses. 2 front, 4 rear. After months of searching I could find anyone that made the set of 6 so I sent one of the two extra hoses to HEL who made the extra lines up. They should now sell them as a set of six. Tbf though, if you're not going to track the car then you'll probably not notice.

Just thought I'd mention it.

i think the si model came with larger discs than the earlier zeds, i would be suprised if bigger discs/calipers would fit inside 18" wheels without fouling.

You're quite right Bear. Sorry didn't notice Jonny had a coupe  . But the bigger discs happily fit the 18's. Fill them nicely. 8)
