New brakes - diy or indie/dealer?

Hi gents,

I'm planning a full brake overhaul soon. It's due a fluid change as well. It's got fbmwsh.

Thing is, buying the parts from the various sites and deals is so much cheaper (OEM parts - clever buying not scrimping). So that's the route I'll go - but since all ///M owners are partial to detail and paperwork, would you diy fit? I'm competent and always have gone this route previously but this line of cars come with expectations of paperwork with BMW or indie stamps.

Thoughts?
 
I'd DIY it, keep the receipts for the parts and pay for the brake fluid change at an Indie/ BMW.

That way you'll still maintain the FSH with the service intervals.
 
No reason for not doing it your self if you are confident. :thumbsup: Just be vidulent that you get genuine parts. There are copies out there and they are not good. Be sure to keep the documentation.
 
I've always done my own brakes and other jobs that don't require a stamp in the book as have many many others on here.

It's strange if you think about it, because if you were selling the buyer usually won't care who fitted the brakes etc, but will want proof that the oil was changed which any of us DIYers could also easily do.

Was exactly my line of thought. I trust myself more to change the oil on a vehicle, regardless of how many times I've done it before, where as the brakes usually have a best suited process to that car... Hey ho, fluids at Coopers, brakes at a mates! Cheers all!

Completely agree - it was more the apparent necessity to have stamps and paperwork to back up any work on ///Ms!
