New Brake Discs

so whats the difference between ate discs and pagid discs? as I've just bought a pair of pagid discs.
is this the correct type??

Yep, Spot on. As long as you have one left and one right, both of the same construction, you're on a winner.

:? From the photo that looks to me like the correct part
ATE/Pagit, aren't they different manufacturers making a part to the same spec? :idunno:

No, The pagid ones are one solid piece of metal machined from a blank.
The ATE Discs are actually a 2-Piece construction, hence those little spikes between the outer and inner parts of the disc.

The pagid ones weigh 1.2kg more per disc and won't dissipate heat as well as the OE (ATE) ones.

yea got a left and right. the pagid ones i have are both two piece.so do they do a solid and a two piece disc ??

I wonder if they have two suppliers as Pagid don't actually make discs. They part of TMD Friction who own Textar, Pagid, Mintex and a couple of other braking companies manuacturing pads.

The discs are generally someone elses product finished with the anti-corrosion coating and boxed up in a Pagid box.
We've had Pagid stuff turn up before with Brembo stamped into the outer lip of the disc.

I'd be interested to see the rear of the disc, more so the inner mounting edges.

had a look can't see no visible markings.

I seem to be missing a packet of fixing bolts out of one of the boxes.ecp reckon they don't come with them even tho one box has them in a packet.

I don't remember getting any bolts with mine,from any source (BMW, ECP, eBay).

The reason they tell you that is because 9 times out of 10 they aren't in there
You'll have no problem reusing the originals unless you're a total animal with a wrench and snap the head off.

finally found the ate imprint when fitting the discs.so the pagids from ecp appear to be made by ate.

Waiting on my ate discs from Al and got my wheels refurbed yesterday. There was an Aston dbs there while I picked the Zed up.The calipers looked massive! Never thought to take a pic of them but here is one of the car. The car sounded amazing.

The brakes were carbon. Would they have been the same as the ones you are using for the big brake kit Al?

We used the DB9 calipers which are a 4-Piston Brembo Caliper, almost identical to what the Audi TTRS.
The DBS calipers are a 6-Piston have more spread, are much bigger and require a much larger master cylinder to give an ideal pedal feel.

Raising this question a few weeks on - are the Awesome GTI chaps the best place for these still? I'm getting low on the front and so will need the full setup; discs, pads and presumably sensors.

You'll only need sensors if the warning light has come on. If not you can re-use your old ones.

Just be careful removing them from the pad as they can be delicate. Last thing you want to do is brake it and not have a replacement.

On the brake wear sensors I have been told that when removing you need an angled set of pliers and to remove (pull) them before undoing anything is the easiest way.

I haven't done this myself yet as I am waiting to get another good run out of my discs or MOT whichever is sooner.

Thanks Alfa - I've got a quote for fitting and the sensors are about £10 so will just go with new ones for the sake of a few £. Thanks for that run down, I'll put in an order later today.
