New Brake Disc Question

Hi,

As I've decided to keep the M for another year I have bought new discs and pads all round.

I bought the front ATE CSL Discs from Germany and they have a grey matt coating on them.

I bought the rears from BMW and they come all nice and shiny.
Does anyone know why the front CSL discs are a matt grey?

Is it just a protective coating?

Cheers

Mark

If you bed them in properly with gradually increasing heat cycles that will go really quickly - noise and coating. And you'll get to smell freshly cooked brand new brakes, an odour I love for some weird reason. Bit worrying when they are smoking though :D

Obvious question - how much did you pay ?

Thanks for the info guys l!

I paid £340 delivered for front discs and pads from www.ioilservice.de
I paid £225 delivered for rear discs from BMW dealer on eBay.

I then bought ate rear pads and front/rear brake pad sensors from carparts4 less for £65 delivered

So around £630 all in :)

Yes im with you on that. There is a weird sense of achievement when you pull up and smell brakes cooking followed by a plume of smoke and the clicking noise as everything cools back down 8)
