I have for a while spent many an hour recently going over this forum, so today i signed up, I am in the process of selling my Sept (59) 118D, i have had a test drive in a Z4s3.0 and to say i loved it is a massive understatement , I have booked a viewing and test drive fot this http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/bmwauc/details/0,,1156___ask-23%40adm-xx,00.html?ch=_V0JBTE0zMjA2MEU1MTY4MzM=&btp=1x12-price_DESC . Im sure i will love it but do members think in the long run i will regret getting the s2.3 , manual 3.0 seem very few and far between, thanks in advance for any help

I'm sure you'll love it. Yes the 3.0 does have a little more poke, but the 2.5 is still good fun if you give it a little stick. :driving:

Its a nice looking car that.

Just one comment. That price is high, If I were you I would seriously look at the 2.8 with 4K off list price which pops it in your bracket. This is the new 3.0 same performance but if you can keep the twin turbo quiet looks to pull 45 mpg compared to 33.

I plucked for a 10 plate 3.0 auto over the 2.3 manual or sport edition. I was waiting for the 2.8 but still has yet to appear so can not see good deals in the next year so done the deal and Im picking it up in the morning. I have had 3 2.5 old models before 2 were SI sport all manual (so first time for 3.0 and auto) and were fast enough and did 32 mpg. I could not justify the extra 2K for the 3.0l. However pices have gone mad and 3.0 are as cheap as the 2.3 possibly people are worried on petrol, even though book they do the same. The 3.5 is a different beast and i would love one but i do 45 miles per day to work so adds up but is a point on the overall cost of ownership.

all trinkets get lost in the reade in, so if like me you do it every 2 years then its getting the best specification car, youngest model, low mile (not the lowest but low) and not odd colours external/ internal, (nothing wrong but limits desirability) is important. 2K now will be 500 in tradein id rather keep the 2k in the pot for next time.

Hi

Thanks for the welcome posts, Thanks to jaz4 for his comments which of course i have took on board, and look forward to hearing about his imminent purchase , Hi to navid.v I am based in South Norfolk, moved up from London 6 years ago

I fully backup what's been said in regards to adding the additional extras onto the car because when you come to sell a car they mean nothing at all and you will get a big shock when you come to negotiate a price for the sale

I feel it more than others because my car was £40,000 and had a lot of extras and now I think I've almost lost £15,000 at trade price only one year after buying the car

I was thinking of selling my car shortly but I'm more inclined to think just to keep it now and if I keep it another year then the depreciation will be a little softer after I come to trade in next year

good to see someone else on the east coast as well

Ok are you ready

after 24hrs in the new 3.0 auto.

Im devistated. yes I am. I cant beleive it. Just as I thought nothing in it. Sorry but I am sort of talking rubbish.

This 3.0 auto grunts growles and is very, very competent. Driving back 80 miles it cruses, touch the accelerator and it moves. 80 mph is around 2.5K rpm just bubbling. My old one needed to touch 3K.

Going to work 23 miles even in the wet country roads I hardley touched the peddel, and yet seemed to sprint very quick. Pushing the peddle and the exaust tone shouts up yours.

The auto is stunning, cant beleive the difference. So may different ways to drive, auto or mess with the paddles, or use the gear shift for sequential ahhh so many things.

Just found sport+ and pushing the stick away from you you get sport shift and boy she sounds sweet, loud grunt and wow the power.

Now the issue petrol, flying at 70-80 hit 37 mpg. country roads not pushing 34 bit of fun 28.

My old one pushing it averaged 30 so will need more time.

I will be posting on the new v old but so far just get one no matter of the power plant.

What newboy said brings the head to heart to alignment. his is the best you can get but loosing atleast £15K in less than 2 years is a massive shame. I lost less than 6K on my last one I had for 29 months, and saved a bit in the last trade in to put me into the 3.0 market.

I still agree what I said before, like a 3rd arm you never missed it, but for 3 zd4 before I would always dream of the 3.0 now I have one boy I now know what ive been missing. Now if i could slip into the 3.5.

I miss blue tooth, heated seats, 5 position seats, parking sensors even cup holders (wtf) but come on 2K its not worth it.

sorry How about: ( the no sport is the same list as 2.3sport so the sport is +£3K on top)

Hi jaz4

Once again thanks for your input, it sounds as if you have the car that you always wanted, I have for over a year now been showing an interest in all things Z4 , at the present i own a 118d sport which in all fairness is a good car and serves the wife & myself well, but alas is very boring and rather a disappointment. For this reason i want to get the purchase of the Z4 as near as perfect as i can, so for me i want the i-drive, blue-tooth, sports seats , heated seats , navigation etc, also what ever the previous owner has added, if this means a few more £k then i will happily dig a bit deeper into pocket. Have this week test driven a 23i & a 3.0i the 3ltr being auto, well you can guess the outcome , the 23i has gone on the back burner, so do i now compare the 3.5, yes of course i intend to. As a footnote the118d is going, but we also have a 05 VWGolf Gt tdi which we intend to keep as a workhorse Thanks Alzie
