New boy/ Old boy

Hi

I'd like to nominate myself as the most "Zed experienced" newbie.... I've had my E85 3.0 from new in 2004 and (apart from the Misses' occasional trips to Tesco) have driven all of it's c155k miles have enjoyed all of them except those associated with the death of the gearbox at 135k.....

For the "Zed-spotters" it's 3.0i SE Auto, Merlot Red, Beige Oregon Leather interior, sycamore wood dash, 18" composite star spoke wheel and just about every other option that I could tick...I still have a copy of the order form!

I still love the car; with a new gearbox run in and approaching it's 10th birthday, I'm considering a full re-furb to get back it's original beauty.

On the "to do" list at the moment are: a respray, wheel refurb, new driver's wing mirror (auto dimming/heated) and replacement of factory fitted (jammed) CD changer with something that will talk to current smart-phones for calls and music (I have bluetooth and professional nav, but an early specs that do not cooperate).

This list may grow and I'd welcome suggestions of (affordable) things to consider. I will no doubt have numerous questions; I'm keen, but have never done work on my own car before, so will outsource all but the most basic tasks.

I look forward to learning from you all!

Felix

Welcome along. Wow what a history you've got with your zed - that really is impressive and some dedication to your car. Look forward to some piccies of her and the progress of the overhaul

Wow ...
You are a rare bird !
An "Original" after 10 years !
I haven't come across another like you .
Maybe the "Most Loyal Zedster" ?
You must have a curious story about that relationship.

Most appear to fall out of love after 2 years or so and get seduced by a Porsche / Audi or even an SLK.

Spread you wisdom Felix.

That's a high mileage for a sports car over 10 years - definitely an enthusiast.

How's the hood holding up?

Welcome to the Forum (at long last!)

:driving:

A rarity in the car owning world Felix & quite the opposite to member Z4M-2006 who has been through 3 Z,s in 12 months :D
Look forward to more info & pics on your beloved
Have you just discovered the joys of the Z4-forum or have you been looking in for a while ?

Welcome to the forum - a properly used Z, congratulations on finally finding us

Perhaps consider a stubby aerial - bit of a marmite subject on here though  - also spacers front and rear are real easy to fit and will sit your rims out nicely in the arches. As for phone / music connectivity - with the CD changer and nav you should consider an Intravee 2 and Alpine unit. Compatible with iPhones / iPods, allows full integration with the audio system, real easy to fit, uses the cd changer connection that you can't use anyway, and allows access to lots of other things that you'd normally need to programme like side lights as DRLs, one touch 3 blink (or more) indicators, auto-lock of the doors and a bunch more. There was one for sale in the Z4 related items section at a good price. One of my favourite mods is the Gaptech one-touch / remote hood control that removes the need to hold the button down, and allows you to open / close the hood easily from the key fob. Also very easy to fit.

I'd better stop as I think I've managed to try and spend about £400 of your money in one paragraph

He has, but I'm pretty sure his is an 05 plate ? There's quite a few on here had them from new - I think RichardG got his in 2004, if I am remembering a recent post correctly. Neither of them have 155k miles on them though :driving:

For the doubters: ordered March 04, delivered July 04....on a personal 04plate...

The "before" pictures will be embarrassing, may have to dig out some older ones to protect her honour!

It was used as my (motorway) commuting car for 5 years 135k miles. Now for pleasure only: 20k miles in 4years.

Hood still great, paintwork suffering from high speed stone chips...a few rust spots too, but running smooth and fast!

Think I edited my post as you posted yours Felix - some suggested mods for you above
