Does this mean that E85 & 86's are not specifically included in this problem?
Yes. Older zeds require the operation of the mechanical ignition lock to match a key to the car. It sounds like newer zeds only need OBDII port access and the right software to match a key to the car. One more reason to prefer old skool mechanical bits to new gee whiz electronic wizardry.

Yeah. e46/e83/e85/e86 cars they have to smash or pick the mechanical lock as well as code a key to the car.

You tube video showing a black box key programmer for a BMW with a mechanical key.

Poofish duvet cover for a car thief?

Mm not very PC.. Perhaps you meant to say 'tasteless duvet cover'?

Errr....no, I meant to say poofish!

In this context I am talking about car thieves, so I personally couldn't give a crap about being "pc" towards them. They are meant to be hard guys, so such a pattern is a bit nancy boy in that context.

Sexist? Good point, I guess not all are men. Even so, a bit too flowery for a female car thief, who is probably a tomboy :D

Of course, that ad may not be for stealing cars...at which point I take my comments back.

Ok old z4 have proper key and imob.

In the dim and distant past my first had tracker. now some one had a tracker and was told his car has stolen and on the move. it was the top one (like my 1st one) had gps data link. He said it was not stolen but they were tacking it. Oh crap they had the wrong serial number to the car, so the one that was not stolen was still sitting in the drive but the stolen one was going for a strip down.

So BMW had the wrong SN on the cars.

My next door neighbour had his motor bike stolen because he had his keys in the hall, they smashed the door in and took the keys and the bike. For me let them have it rather than come into my house and physically extract my keys. With respect my family are way more imprtant than loosing 1 ml of blood from defending. Dont get me wrong I know martial arts (and I have a defence packages dotted around to defend. but the rest of the family are less trained so would give them the keys.

I have been reading the piston heads thread... Looks very scary... Is there any point buying a steering wheel lock or are these just as easy to rip out of the car...no doubt massive insurance hike....thankfully the fairs very rarely parked in a public space...need to clear the garage out and see if the car will fit :x

I bought the Stoplock Pro off e-bay prior to taking delivery of the Z4 and have been using it on the Z3 fine but it doesnt fit the Z4s M Sport steering wheel as its physically too small to thread the Stoplock through. A bit peeved as it does make you feel a bit more reasured when waking away from the car. I know some say waste of time etc but I think its all about buying time as any thief would have to pick the lock, saw it off or saw the steering wheel which would take a little time, maybe enough to get them sprung.

I have the back2you tracker which is hidden in the car so again I can keep tabs on where the car is if I wanted to throughout the day so unless they drive the car straight into a container I would have a fairly good chance of tracking it. Also taken out GAP insurance should the worst happen. Definitely lock it up in the garage if you can and try and use common sense where you park the car during the day, somewhere busy and not quiet.

Never leave your keys on view in the house or near to external doors or near catflaps. A neighbour had a Jaguar and a Peugeot stolen as they had left the key in the back door which had a catflap so just a case of unlocking the door via the catflap :| and away with the car keys.

Personally i would disembowl anyone trying to get my car keys in the house, I'm not one to hand them over and think its only a car at the end of the day, it belongs to me, I work hard for it so why should anyone just take it :poke:

After my Jetta was stolen, I started using "The Club" an American steering wheel lock. Second time my Jetta was stolen the thief took the club too.
Turns out they are very easy to remove without the key.

Stoplock looks better but. . .

I would personally let them take the keys and tell them not to bring it back as I wouldn't want it after they had been in it!

Once they feel the receiving end of my bayonet they would think otherwise :)

They don't like it up em :D

It would probably mean I would get locked away for 200 years for defending what is righfully mine but the pleasure would be memorable!!

A friendly local PC told me that if you do intercept them and engage in pugilism, if they are "accidentally" knocked unconscious none of their evidence is admissible. This was after a neighbour's car became the target of sustained vandalism so he stay out waiting one night and hospitalised the vandal which then got him arrested. No charges laid though, so all good

Of course none of us genteel Z4 owners would use unreasonable force to defend a mere car would we...

Joking aside, I think I would have a go, I'm no have a go hero but shows this country up of people who turn a blind eye and bend over to be raped as its the easy option. I wouldn't want to rely on a PCSO coming to your rescue  Their health and safety rule book would count that out!!
