New battery today

Phoned around this morning. "Will you put a new AGM battery in my 35iS and register it to the car, please?"

Halfords #1. "No. We don't do that."
Halfords #2. "Yes. £184."
ATS. "Half. We don't register batteries."
Sytner BMW. "Yes. £252."
BMW indy. "Yes. £172."

Had it done this afternoon.

You obviously chose Sytner BMW to have this carried out. Perhaps it was the 16 year old sales assistant at Halfords #1 you spoke to :headbang:
Were you having problems with the battery or just changed it as a preventative measure

Actually, to get a quote from Sytner BMW took 3 phone calls. One from me, of course, to the 'SytnerBMWLeicesterMandyspeakinghowmayIhelpyou?' receptionist and two from the glum guy she couldn't find, who had to call me back twice: 'Yes, we can.' & 'I'll get back to you with a price.'

As for the reason for the new battery, helpful posts on the forum reminded me to check the age of the old battery and, to my shame, it was the 10-year-old original. However, this, to its credit, had no problems.

Oh right, so it hadn't run flat? :poke: :D

Buster removed his runflats a while ago & now runs on Michelins i believe :P

You're right, Rob. The "while ago" was December 2016, the same month I bought the car. Two new & two 5mm Bridgestone runflats went into the bin and the car went onto 'normal' Pirelli P Zeros (homologated for Mercedes).

Two sets later, I'm still hesitating about Michelins Super Sports, though. The Pirellis are very good.

Different Halfords branches have different facilities so let's not knock them.

Good to see the main stealers topping the list though, as usual!!!!!

I'll still use Sytner's for some things, though. They're good for servicing, because they do 'cut price' deals - they need to, of course - that still include a courtesy car, which indies rarely do. And when I wasn't paying the bill (other than the excess) for extended warranty work, BMW Warranty dealing with a BMW AD was straightforward.

Excuse my ignorance , but why would you "register" the battery to the car ? :driving:

Because it alters the battery charging algorithms to allow for the fact a new battery charges differently to an old one
Rob

Proper BMW battery at the dealer here in Los Angeles is $200, or GBP 156. Had to haggle for that though, list price was GBP 193. I registered it to the car myself with my Foxwell.

What age should you change battery?

My car is 2011 and probably original battery.

Never had issues but the start/stop has never worked, so could be battery related (previous X1 had same start/stop not working which was resolved by battery).
