New Battery Question...

Helloooooo,

My batteries been iffy for a while now - looking to replace it, but there's a few options apparently...

I have a 2003 Z4 E85. I currently have a "LION" battery - although I can't tell which one specifically (I haven't had a chance to remove it yet)

I see numerous AH options too, such as 50, 55, 70, and even 75+ options. Obviously these vary in size due to the additional power - does anyone know the max size / dimensions that will fit? I have a few gadgets so I'm figuring the higher the AH the better for me... but not sure what will fit.

More importantly though - is Brand - is there a preferred / recommended Brand?

Thanks in advance

The Varta E44 Silver is the best price / performance ratio imho.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/577400078-096-e44-heavy-duty-bosch-yuasa-equiv-5-year-warranty-car-battery/123343574911?hash=item1cb7d9977f:g:7JwAAOSwHjNWBUQ2

Do have a look on Eurocarparts website. I recently bought a Bosch heavy duty with 5 year guarantee. Sometimes they have discount codes. For me the price drop was from about £190 to £120.

The Bosch and the Varta are the same battery made in the same factory so you'd be off your rocker to pay £34 more for the Bosch even with the discount.

Thanks everyone,

What about Excide too? Thanks for the eBay link for the Varda, that's also a "096"

There's also VETECH - anyone heard of them? https://www.gsfcarparts.com/971aa0961

The VETECH 096 is £74.42 delivered from GSFCarparts (with a discount) [3yr warranty]
The EXCIDE 096 is £85.79 delivered from ECP (with a discount) [3yr warranty]
The VARTA 096 is £86.00 delivered via eBay link provided by ph001 [5yr warranty]

The Bosch S5 Battery (S5 Battery 096 5 Year Guarantee) is just £96 on eBay delivered

The Yuasa YBX5096 High Performance Starter Battery, Silver £87.10 5yr warranty, 80AH - Amazon Prime delivered

Havent replaced mine yet but when I was looking everyone recommended the Varta E44. Best price I believe is from the Tayna site with delivery included. Beats Eurocarparts prices even with a 40% discount code.

+1 for Tayna
I think the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) of the one I bought was higher than the original fitted
Good prices and next day delivery if ordered before 4.00pm

Yeah, that Tanya site seems to the best for all the variants price wise, other than the Yuasa YBX5096 which is maybe a £1 cheaper on Amazon Prime lol

Decisions Decisions..... some google-fu tells me that really, all of those (excluding the vetech) are all pretty much the same spec and same really good quality battery. All of them are highly recommended by diff people. With the Bosch & Varta being made by the same company so they're the exactly the same just different branding

What brand / model did you buy?

I am not sure they are all the same. Not speaking from experience but I think fitment could be an issue and also something about venting connectors. I would recommend you stick with a battery that others know will fit correctly.

Thanks :)

For clarification, when I said pretty much all the same, I meant, as in the Build Quality, recommendations etc not the actual form factor of the battery

Sorry not sure it was for my now sold E85 - I'll see if my E-bay purchase history goes that far back
I just checked the dimensions and outputs etc. The venting connection orientation was slightly different but I used some fish tank air tubing to connect up - all worked perfectly

Ahh ok, the ventilation pipe position hadn't crossed my mind! Thanks for the prompt, I'll make sure to bear that in mind

Thanks for the info - I shall go take a look at it's spec and more importantly the dimensions :)

Just buy the Varta E44, it fits, vent pipe in right place, 5 yr warranty and great quality.

Exide ought to be OK too - my BMW Indy told me that's who made the BMW OEM ones.

Well I suppose it makes sense given that E85/E86s were built in the States.

I always thought my E85 was manufactured in the states but the MOT tester was adamant that the chassis number on mine was German. He even looked it up somehow on his PC and it showed German manufacture.
