New battery -- any suggestion?

Hi guys,

I'm planning to change my battery. It's not holding charge
I was reading about Optima Yellow top but I see a lot of bad reviews on Optima brand.
Any suggestion on which one to buy?
I also do not know what size battery to buy.

Interesting to note that the cold cranking amp of the Tayna battery listed for my reg (ENDUROLINE 017) is much higher than the one eurocarparts suggests (BOSCH 027) for my reg.

Also, the Tayna is 95ah (whatever that means), whereas the Bosch S4 I bought years ago for my car is only 60ah.

I wonder if this could be the cause of my battery light on the dash problem, only on cold starts.

60ah does seem low. Equally, 95 seems high!

In searches on a few sites, I'm getting 70 and 75 for mine (3.0l).

Higher CCA is what you're probably interested in given the cold start problem.

I'm starting to think Tayna's reg check system is a bit iffy, as when I checked using their vehicle selector, it listed a different battery (096 model), with only 78ah.

Never known it to be so difficult :headbang:

BMW don't makes batteries, so what are the benefits of buying a battery with some BMW stickers on it?

I still have the battery that came with my car so am not up to speed on this area.

If BMW don’t make batteries, who made the battery for my car? :?

Probably Bosch. It's just rebadged, as far as I'm aware. Most electrical parts on your car will be bought in by BMW. Same part, just has a BMW stamp on it.

A main stream battery manufacturer who then put a BMW sticker on it

I know what you mean. I've had so much trouble myself over the years regardless of the car.

The important bit IMO... try to match the physical dimensions of the original battery (sometimes you can go smaller or bigger, but I've found getting the same length, width and height to be safest way forward). This ensures it will fit but also is unlikely to hold too little capacity.

Then go for as high AH and CCA as you can afford.

I think this is the original battery that the BMW came with.
See the pics.
It says, 12V, 70 Ah, 760 CCA.
But it seems, the OEM battery is no longer produced. Not sure though.

Great! See my previous post. Doesn't need to be BMW. Probably manufactured by Bosch or someone similar.

Get a battery with the same dimensions and 70ah and 760CCA (or greater in both instances) and you should be fine.

Again, my opinion - based on changing the battery in about 10 different cars over the years!

Three more questions:
i) Does any OBD software settings needs to be reset after connecting the battery? (Mine is E85 2005 BMW z4 2.5i. )
ii) Do I have to connect a vent tube on the battery to remove the gases produced?
iii) Anyone here has experience with AGM batteries? If so, please, please share. Are they better than wet cells?
