New Average Speed Camera program, London

Been noticing a flurry of new black poles & little yellow cameras stretched along the A2, with the last one right on the end of the 50 limit before it hits 70 on the climb before the Dartford turn off..

If you've not seen the attached article, looks like one of many planned for the capital... so we'll have to spend more time looking at the speedo rather than watching out for other road muppets & zombie pedestrians.

Are you suggesting that you do not have the skills needed for driving like the majority of the nation? :poke:

I know that's a tongue in cheek comment, but I find keeping up with the flow of traffic, be that 50mph, 70mph, 85mph etc far easier than constantly worrying about averaging over the limit on a section of average speed camera's roads.

Usually you get one idiot sitting up your back end, berating you and flashing his headlights, simply because you are doing 41mph in a 40mph average speed zone.

Though in that instance, I find casually slowing gets them hot under the collar. It's quite fun watching them explode.

Was a polite warning, as half the traffic tends to be blissfully unaware & hoof it @ 70(ish) between the fixed cameras on a road that runs like diarrhea & often comes to a stop faster than a car hitting a stationary oak tree.

Sounds like you're a Jedi knight driver, so you've nothing to worry about.& can ignore

I am a nervous wreck driving anywhere near London, I can not understand how anyone can live under those permanent camera littered roads. It is impossible on all those inclines to not exceed the random 20 and 30 limits.

Not just London. We are gradually getting ave speed cameras in every village in Cornwall. To be honest I have no problem with them. Might be different if I had to commute past a few.

Exactly what I found last Sunday - I posted this on another thread but it seems more appropriate here

Left work at about 9:30am, rain was just starting with large 'spits', but soon became stair-rods. Driving down through south London in a downpour really isn't my idea of fun - the 30mph limit rigorously enforced with speed cameras every 50-100 yards is bad enough but they've even thrown in a load of 'random' 20mph sections on the main arterial roads with little or no warning of when they're starting. It may be OK when you drive the route regularly and know the roads but when you have the wipers on the FFF (Fecking Furiously Fast) setting, and are just getting the odd clear view of the road, random changes in the speed limit are a complete PITA :headbang:
