New alloys - i need help

Hi,

I am stuck and i'm looking for help if anyone would be able to advise. I don't know a great deal about this so any help would be appreciated as i have trawled the forum/google looking for answers, spoke to mechanics who are mates, and spoke to a fellow BMW z4 owning friend and cannot really get the answers.

I own a 2006 z4 2.0 se and i am now aware that the tyre tread on my rears are pretty low so need replacing. Rather than fork out for two new rear RFTs i have been looking into replacing all four alloys and wheels as i intended to do when i first bought it. I have the original 16" star spoke alloys which to be fair are not the most popular type of alloy or the nicest.

I like the 18" MV2 alloys that a number of members on here seem to have. However, as i don't know a great deal about all the technical details of wheels, i need to make the process as simple as possible when changing the wheels. I have seen many MV2 e46s available on ebay but i am not sure if they will fit easily without the need for spacers etc.

1. Firstly, the numbers on my current tyres are 225/50R16 92W + POT RE050 I + DOT 7G8J on all four tyres. I think i know what all of these references mean but will 18" rims fit? There does not look like there is a lot of room there!

2. Would e46s fit? I know that some forum threads say yes but as i said i would like this to be as simple as possible as i hate hard work so could do with it going straight on :)

3. Would i need to make adjustments with spacers or anything? I do not know if my car being the 2.0 se model or the age of the car make a difference to the set up on the car. Also i am not sure what the offsets are.

4. As all four wheels are the same will i be able to fit a staggered set? As most sets on ebay are 8.5J/8J.

Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Yes, they will fit. 8J front with ET47 and 8.5J rear with ET50 are the correct fitment.

You'll need some 225/40 18s Front and 255/35 18 Rear. They will go straight on with no rubbing.

Welcome to the forum

Cheers chaps! I wondered if i would even get a reply!

You mention the sizes, are these the only sizes to make it easy? Some adverts on ebay state 225/40/18 for all four wheels for example.

Thanks again!

I should also add, before the rest of the gang get here.... Some pics of your car and an intro in the newbies section would be great :driving:

Hi, me again. I have another linked question to this.....do e36s fit? One bloke selling some mv2s says that he thinks they are e36 alloys and that they say 8.5J x 18 EH2 inside them rather than 8.5J x 18 ET50.

Another guy seems to have all the correct fitments but has put IS47/IS50 instead of ET47/ET50, i am not sure what the difference is.

Cheers again chaps :driving:

I must work out how to get a photo on my profile.

E36 didn't have MV2s. E46 did though

I think the values are key, so 47 front and 50 rear are the right values

Cheers Adamski.

Should it say 47 or 50 on the wheel? The picture he has given shows what i think to be an accurate part no as the picture says bmw 7 896 490 8.5j x 18 eh2. Could you tell me what the eh2 means? Thanks matey :headbang:

The wheels I have on my car don't have the offset values stamped on them, but they are correct at 47/50.

Not entirely sure what the other numbers you've mentioned are

The other numbers are part of the part number - google it and it brings up a BMW parts catalogue, for the e46 wheels.

p.s. Here's mine wearing e46 MV1's they bolt straight on (as would e46 mv2s)
