New Air Filter...

But if purchasing the K&N filter was really that bad of an idea K&N would be out of business!

Well, their business model has had to change alot over the last 10 years.

Their open under-bonnet filters have now become enclosed kits more and more, and often they fit in with the OEM induction systems ram air capabilities, but these are then even more expensive (£200+) and often still no superior to the OEM system in reality.

I think they exist on the premise they are making a difference and great marketing/sales, and they still manage to sell alot to proper arduous condition uses where they are still very very good vs paper. Much like foam filters are very good for motorsport use...

Personally, the sort of mods I would be doing would be picking the cherries from the range, so getting 3.0Si brakes, Alpina back box etc... they are also less likely to need to be declared for insurance, and so won't harm resale anywhere near as much as other types of non-BMW range mods.
