New air bag module required

Some advise please. After having a an airbag light come on a little while ago I have been on a bit of a journey trying to get it sorted out. The original is damaged due to an ingress of water resulting in a shorted out board. I purchased a second hand board from a memeber of the forum on the understanding it could be programmed to work with my and following a significant amout of time and money I have discovered that it can't be reprogrammed. So I am left with a spare part which is no good to me and a car which has an airbag fault. I need to get this sorted as soon as possible with I guess a new module from BMW. :(

Question is do I book it into BMW for them to instal it and reprogramme it or take to an independant for them to sort?? :? Or are there any other possibilites I should consider??

Cheers
Jack

I can't see why this would nee to be programmed. I would have thought it should just be fit and clear the light via programming.

Having attmepted to fit a second hand module with the help of an expert and failed I am being a bit cautious in the next steps. I have been advised that the new module will need to be flashed with the correct software/info e.g. VIN number and then ths faults cleared to put the light out. I believe this is a once opportunity, get it wrong and its £300 down the drain.

What about a repair service?

I used quarry motors in Sheffield to code a second hand airbag module to my car after being told by dealers / independents that it wasn't possible - it is and it only cost me £30

Thanks for the replies guys. :)

I have looked at the repair option but the board is fried due water damaged. :(

Sheffield is a fair trek from South Wales, all the local guys I have approached have either failed to re programme a 2nd hand module or said it can't be done.

I have given in and ordered a new one from the stealer, local indie is going to program it for me for approx40 quid, I just need to do all the work to access it and put it back after. :)

If it's the passenger side module I have 3 new ones lying around £75 each + postage, I'm playing golf at Celtic manor this Wednesday could bring one with me if your in the area.

Thanks Mac. I have given up on the second hand modules after a bad experience. If it it had been as easy as plug and play!!!! Enjoy the celtic manor, the weather is fab for the golf this week. :D
