...there's always a but!

Everyone, hi! Posted out on the newbies forum a couple of weeks ago and at that time still no Z4 but, deal done and collected it last Friday and drove up from Birmingham (to Glasgow) and I have to say, despite 6 hour journey and the traffic, was the most fun I've ever had in a car! Was able to stretch it's legs towards the end and found the straight 6 (3.0) an absolute dream, in any gear. Mostly sat in 6th (cruise engaged at roadworks), returned 35mpg with one very happy (cheshire cat grin) owner. Cleaned on Saturday and cruised on Sunday, no chance of getting the top down but a blast none the less.

Anyway, I'll get some pictures up when the new camera arrives but here's my first post for a taster..... http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7038

On to business then, couple of niggles?

First off (and no, it's one thing I didn't check stupidly enough!), the cd-changer is not audiable. CD's go in, magazine gets checked, pulls the first CD out, spins it and nothing. Can't hear anything over the speakers no matter what volume and the correct source is selected. Any thoughts? Professional system is installed, everything else works just fine including BT.

One thing I will say is the car was in BMW for a week before I collected it with a 'water in the boot' problem. This required a new battery, wiring loom, computer, amp, 3rd brake light and one seal, all performed by BMW, tested and warrantied. Wonder if they've left something disconnected at the changer end??

Next, intergrated Bluetooth? Not a problem as such just wondering if there's a way of quickly scanning the address book other than holding the button down? Like a page up/page down feature, don't laugh as the manual is a bit, how you say....lacking!

CD-Changer is the priority, lost of experts here so hopefully I can get a better idea before phoning the stealer.

Great to be here and, after much waiting, own a Z4! :driving:

Glad to hear you are enjoying it :D

My money would be on a missing connection re your cd changer problem...

For the bluetooth I have had to reorganise my phone book to the most used numbers first so avoid all the scrolling - don't think there is a page down - I'd be happy to be wrong though :?

Had to do the same :( Bit of a pain..

How do your callers find your BT sound quality both at rest and speed?

Everyone who I have spoken to via the BT (mic on steering wheel) has complained that the quality is terrible - so wanted to know if this is just my car or a general thing. Im probably going to get BMW to look at it when i get other warranty work done :driving:

not had any complaints - though I can't hear others very well with the roof down, and the system don't like my TomTom BT connection active at the same time :(

Thanks for the quick replies, much appreciated.

Called the previous owner after posting this morning, he conformed everything worked (cd changer included) prior to BMW work in the boot so....

Checked the invoice, there was coding work done, a possibility?

Missing connections, where should I be looking? There's an AMP fitted next to the battery so there should be a cable (COAX or Optical with DSP?) that runs to the changer?

Dont mind probing about in the boot/lifing the carpet and checking for changer connections (or does this have to be done inside the cockpit?) or lack of! Wonder what the coding would be required for?

Loving the car, thanks guys!

Retrofit of SatNav will sort your phone book out, makes the system much more useable.

SatNav retro fit is planned for next year, now the car is purchased need to keep the other half happy and start ticking jobs off the 'Honey Do List' (honey do this, honey do that)...

Meantime though, I've been looking on fleebay for the bits, need DVD computer, display, antena and wiring loom? Searches are coming up dry except the DVD unit, it's probably more down to what I'm searching for and results dont seem to marry up with RealOEM, seem to remember PVR posting info somewhere but can't locate now.
