New 4 series 😔

Been looking for a new daily. Thought I would look at and build the new 4 series. What are Bmw thinking of with that front and grills are awful, how big. Had 5 series before and had to hand it back as took redundancy. Got a new job which is home based and will only go out a couple of days a week if that. Decided not to have a company car this time cost to much in tax for what I’ll use it. I know I’ll get a 4 series Coupé. Not with that front I won’t. Not an Audi fan so back to the drawing board. Any suggestions? Don’t want another 5 or 3 as preference is a two door.

I know what you mean about the 4 series, but I genuinely think it'll be a grower.

A lot of BMW's have done that to me in the past. I remember seeing the E36 for the first time and thinking how ugly it was. I ended owned a couple and fell in love with them. It's happened with several others too. In fact the Z4 Coupe is one of very few BMW's that I've looked at and instantly loved.

In terms of alternative's there aren't an abundance of larger coupes out there. You could look at the C-Class coupe, but personally I'd go for something different like the Lexus RC.

I like how different from the 3 series it looks more than how it looks in its own right, if that makes sense?! And the fact that they seem to have put more of an effort into making it a better driver's car.

The grille was a bit of a shock initially but pictures of it (and the concept) have been floating around for so long now that already it's losing its edge. Especially in the UK with a front plate.

I was on my way to work last week sitting at a junction and saw a car coming toward me that literally made me laugh out loud. It was a brand new 7 Series !

I really can't get to like the styling of a lot of current makes of car. It's as if the designers think that excess in size, proportion and amount of features is the key to making a car look attractive. Not in my eyes !
I genuinely find the current BMW styling quite comical and ridiculous

Compared to the other models like the X7 etc I don't think this is too bad and with the numberplate attached looks ok... I think the biggest selling cars they need to be a little more careful with. Like all newer BMW designs non of them make you stop and stare.

The main gripes for me is the back end similar to the E92 and F82 just looks too long and not proportional the squat looking end of the E90 and F80 just look better... maybe its a sign of getting older but I much prefer the 4 door variants not only are they more usable the profile looks miles better imo.

Back in the E46 coupe vs 4 door I would have taken the coupe newer ones other way round.

That is hideous I bought my E85 for the styling but would not touch most of the latest range from BMW

I don't know I kind of like it. I think it's going to be yet another BMW that will grow on people with time just like plenty other models have in the past.

Those grilles are the funniest of the lot  the 7 series ones are bad, but the new 4 series tops the charts  unbelievable.

Apparently they're huge due to demand from Chinese buyers. I think it's a show of wealth out there, to have the largest grilles. God knows how or why.

The none M sport (se?) 4 series looks really good.

They haven't got the M sport quite right with the styling.

I would pick that over the M sport.

Have you considered an i8?
Can be had for around 40k these days, the same price as a new four!

Just a thought, but I've always liked the looks of the 2 Series Coupe.

That new 4 series is gonna have a LOT of aftermarket front bumper options with alternative grill designs. Already seeing lots of designers on Instagram photoshopping different grills and bumpers onto it. It’s sooooooo ugly.

Given that its just the front bumper, dont see why BMW couldnt do a 'china spec' bumper and a 'euro spec' bumper, and let the buyer decide when ordering. Cos clearly what works in china ( big, bold, chromed extravagant show of wealth) doesnt work over here, who like things subtle and restrained.

A friend has an X7 and I laughed the first time I saw the front, but the 4 series grill is in another league!

For once I think having the number plate in the middle helps the look of the front end. Without it it looks truly guppified awful and will never be a grower on me.

OP the current Jags make a decent case for themselves.

At the risk of being totally none PC, racist and smallist all at the same time. I think it may be little mans syndrome.

I can’t say I’m a fan. I appreciate what you mean about it growing on you but these do look very odd. Especially in two door guise and the proportions are strange. The back is very dull.

BMW Blog on Instagram posted some first ‘real world’ pictures of the new 4 series and admittedly they dont have front number plates but even so.... gomping.

On another note, I saw a two series gran coupe in the flesh today. Looks like a London Underground train.

The grille just doesn't work on light coloured cars at all - I imagine the aftermarket will make a killing with all black grilles. Have to agree with your thoughts on the styling - take away the grille and the whole car is bland in the extreme. I'm sure a few dealers must've been crying into their cornflakes when they got their first look...
