New 108s under goodwill

Just back from dealers and had four new 108s fitted as good will gesture by bmw uk. I wrote a nice letter of complaint and was lucky they agreed to replace them, all I had to pay was £50 for fitting. I also had electric window regulator fitted under extended warranty. So good day at the dealers. Only problem is my tyres, falkens, need replacing. 3mm and 4mm what is the legal depth now??? So my advice is to write to bmw with your problem you never know you might get lucky as I did. :D
 
Excellent work! Had a few issues dealt with at the dealers before... flipping windows regulator included... never got as far as writing to BMW UK, never thought it would yield anything! This may sound stupid, but can you post who you addressed this to and where? Just in case! :evil:

Tyres I believe are 1.6mm.

Did the dealer fit the wheels? Did they have anything to say about your non-run-flats?
 
tnnytnny can you give some more details about your car, how old etc so it give other members an indication as to what they can get replaced.

If the car is under three years old the wheels should have been replaced FOC with no fitting charge.

Also IIRC tyres are 1.6mm but is pushing it a bit.

I have also written to BMW on a few times and always had success. :thumbsup:
 
My Bridgestone RFTs have abt 3mm on the fronts and they might as well be slicks for all they're worth! Tyre depot here we come....
 
My car is a 2006 2.5 se and was out of warranty. No mention was made of the fact that my tyres where not run flats. When I wrote to bmw this is who i wrote to. I was also advised to send any mail recorded delivery.

Thanks for address... just down the road too!

I've had a couple bits done out of warranty too - I think they just "bill" it to another car! Last one done was a new set of rear springs (1 was broken) about 6 months ago on a 53 plate!

did you really get free springs!! mine is a 53 plate with the well known 108 corrosion. mine are quite bad aswell. i wonder if its worth a try

did you really get free springs!! mine is a 53 plate with the well known 108 corrosion. mine are quite bad aswell. i wonder if its worth a try

yeah, i have asked before on here but the feeling was that because they are old'ish' and out of warranty that they woulndt replace them.

however, this is such a known fault and im sure they get calls about it every day. they might just do it for me.

tnnytnny, how abrupt were you with your letter? or did you remain quite polite?
 
It is definitely worth a try. I really did not expect to get anywhere but thought i had nothing to lose. I was polite and just pointed out that it was a well known issue, think it is just your luck on the day to be honest.
 
i think i will send a letter. they are really bad and are going to cost around £550 to get refurbed.

Yes - after I complained that they'd been done once already (a couple years before) and had 2 friends with M3s with the same issue. That got me one! Telling them to hold off while I got a quote from an indie got me the other. I payed labour. This I got something done on the roof another time too - after numerous problems with something I'd payed for and by that time though they probably thought it was going to come to blows! That was just through the main dealer, not BMW UK... although apparantly head office authorised the goodwill on the springs.

Like the man said, its got to be worth a stamp!
 
tnnytnny you dont fancy pming me the letter you sent do you?

i wont use it. just so i get an idea of the best way to go about it.

i tend to get myself annoyed when writing letters of complaint and they end up being a little rude sometimes lol!
 
This is really the time we could do with a BMW customer service insider.

oh what a world that would be :P
 
i approached my local dealer Elvets in durham regarding my 108s which i've noticed have starting to bubble up on the inside of the rim,i asked if they do refurbs they do but not on sight they use a company in sunderland,then the sales man asked if the car had any warranty which it did so i asked if the warranty covered the wheels the sales guy did'nt know so put me on hold then came back and said the warranty did'nt cover them as it was cosmetic rather than mechanical,so i think the dealer fobbed me off :thumbsdown:
Reading on here a few have there wheels replaced under goodwill so is it worth persuing.My car is 53 so would they replace them on car that old?
