First picture looks good, second from the rear not so good.
my article wasn't clear on the model pictured, it is a 0 series.
Yes, it will compete against the Audi A1 and Ford Fiesta. It will also be front wheel drive, so purists might not like it. I doubt there will be large engines available - can't see a 6 in-line being available, probably smaller turbo units, maybe even some electric hybrids.

I understand the next 1 series will come in FWD and RWD variants, the FWD will be the cheaper model (maybe the 0) and the RWD will continue to carry the 1 series name. Same platform underneath and similar bodyshells (IIRC the 0 comes in 3 door only, the 1 in 3 door and 5 door like the current car).
I will consider the next 1 series to replace my current E87 but it must be the RWD otherwise there is little point in paying for the badge if FWD (IMHO). I buy BMW primarly as I prefer RWD.
