Neil's Coupe

haha, I'm in no state to be bothered to edit right now.

Got no sleep last night trying to put back all the mods on my smart to factory. (rip out the stereo, take out turbo pipes, aux lighting etc etc)

Hey Neil :? You're in the Cclub now  the elite  look forward to some more pics . never tire of looking

Started with mods today. Slapped in my XS power battery. (In preparation for the audio system)

Specs are smaller than the OEM battery, but the AGM technology makes it suited for an all round work horse and will have none of that poorly planned dimming lights issue either!

Upgraded the chassis earth as well. Shall do the engine block to chassis at some point tomorrow.

Will leave the battery etc in and monitor voltages etc for a week before proceeding.

I already have all my audio equipment from my smart which will go in the zed.

Comprising of:

Audison Bit10D signal processor, equaliser, crossover, all round do it all magic box.
JL Audio HD900/5 5 channel amplifier. 4x100 for the mids and highs and 500 on bass.
Hertz HiEnergy HSK165 2 way components being run active (tweeters will have their own channel on the amplifier and woofers their own)
As for the subs it will be between the JL Audio CP208LG-W3v3 or the JL Audio 10w7 in the high output box.

The rest of the factory system will remain intact. I am also planning on upgrading the factory woofers with a pair of 6w3 which can be connected to my hd900/5 giving me 3 options for some bass depending on my mood/requirements.

In addition, the car will also see some attention with some sound dampening material. Not to say its loud, but a little wouldn't hurt at all. (I'm not going to be hurling the car around a track nor much fast road driving where my acceleration would be an issue before anyone comments on that. The car is plenty fast for me currently and I just want to enjoy the car and my license too!)

After that will look into lowering the car a little.

:D

Nice Z Neil. Remember after installing all that mad audio to also take time and listen to that sublime straight six now and again

LeeZ4MR, Thanks Lee! I already am!

bluestreak56, yeah! That was one of the requirements, as low miles as possible. 34500 for a 58 generally isn't too bad! At least all I know is I'm happy with it!

inkey$, I shall! But having done nothing but listen to that engine since Saturday, the car has had more fuel than my smart has in a week.

:) get used to that dude!

thanks!

went on sunday to drop off the wheels for my brabus (as it was running on winter steels and the dealer said they'd swap them out for me...

needless to say the practicality of the zed came into it's element! 3 in the back, one on the front seat (don't worry, wheel was wrapped up well!

Ha, looks good! Although with all that audio you may lose a few hp and use more fuel :)

Thanks.

I will with the 10w7 as that weighs more than my girlfriend  but the two 8w3's aren't too bad on weight.

(plus with all that great sound in there, I'll be more likely to drive slower, so with less of the loud pedal shouldn't see much change in consumption!

A few more pictures.

So you have decided on the 10w7? I take it you are using boot space for that. Mine has a massive battery compartment in the boot and a nice space next to it for a single sub - but then the boot would be reduced to the same size as a shopping basket hahaha.I've learnt my lesson on installing ice - I got the alpine dvd head unit when I was about 20 which set me back £1400. Sold it for 150 5 years later :(

I had an MRVF450 running all the treble and a VIBE Blackbox 2 running the subs.. I remember having my entire car interior and carpets out at one point running cables here there and everywhere!

This is my old setup (these are the only pics I have, we only had rubbish cameras on phones in those days):

Congrats... Looks great... Coupe version of mine! Look forward to seeing the audio setup.... Near me too!

twist944, I have indeed! But I shall be swapping as and when I see fit. The joys of having worked for a car audio company I guess!

And the battery issue was another reason (aside from insurance) as to why I was so easily able to convince myself that the non-M would be the better buy for me!

As for the space requirements, you can see my two options (one for long drives, and one for daily driving...

both are happy with 500rms though more wouldn't go a miss.

needless to say both sound absolutely fantastic depending on my mood!

aquazi, thanks! I can't wait either. Need to sell a few bits from my smart before I can order my ipod adpater (HRT iStreamer), the sound damping kit and fresh speaker wire if the run from my smart isn't long enough (not had the chance to offer it up, been to busy enjoying the sound of that straight 6)

Oo nice, where abouts are you?

If you went with the iStreamer you would need to dock your phone somewhere to be able to use the controls on it wouldn't you? A lot of people tend to go for the intravee 2 as it integrates with the existing controls. Or do you have head unit plans as well?
