Oh man that would have sent me to the moon  but gonna make you feel a bit better now with a similar tale of woe , , settle down :)
One of my closest friends bought a brand new touareg , his first ever new car , had it 10 weeks / 1000 miles &, parked on the drive of his townhouse when he decided to cycle to work . Neighbours had a guy round to remove the iron balcony & construct a new much larger one , anyhow the numpties were using a large angle grinder during the process & showered my chums motor with sparks (luckily noticed by a neighbour across the road ) every spark was a tiny burn through the lacquer :headbang:
Then turned out the cowboys had no insurance & it had to go through the householders policy , , took over 6 months of anguish & the car needed a full glass out respray from VW which cost over £6k

what frustrates me is there appears to be nothing i can do to stop him causing the mess

its pointless cleaning the car until he as finished :headbang:

I would say let him wash it for you but that's not going to go well either, sorry Taz x

This makes me sad and angry at the same time.

Do you have a car cover?

i do, but i only put it on if the car is very clean and i intend leaving it for a few weeks, the cover itself can make marks, its the official BMW cover too

i found my bmw car cover left marks too... on the rear near my bumper :headbang:

Can you park it down the road maybe? Know its a pain as its not your fault... but i wouldnt trust my neighbor washing my car.. especially after i told them they had to do it as they made a mess... they would probably use a brillo pad to clean it :(

Its very sad have you spoke to him/ her them about it? i guess they are working on there place and it wont go on for ever? I was on the other side of the fence ( no pun intended ) when i was renovating my place. My neighbor has a tvr. He came over one day and just asked us to keep any eye out for his car. And if it was on his drive ask him to move it if we where doing dusty dirty work. We made plans together to do dirty work when he was out car in garage that kind of thing.

i appreciate it won't go on for ever and that is as to be done - he's still a w*nker though, the day he drops dead i will be very happy, i consider myself an easy going guy, but this neighbour I seriously wish him dead lol

i thought it was snow and was trying to find the link between your neighbour and the weather

then i thought it was snow foam.

go and speak to him about the mess he's created.

a mate in work recently had some people round to paint his house (he rents it off a company). the 2 cowboys were painting it in the wind and paint splattered all over his impreza. instead of the painters telling him about it, they decided to use a tea towel to ''clean'' the paint off, scratching the paint in the process. they also left quite a lot of paint dots still on the car.

he's still trying to get it sorted.

It is inconsiderate. He should've come and warned you he was about to make a mess and given you the chance to move the car.

Is it possible he genuinly didn't realise? Going by your comments, it seems he's a general all-round twat, so probably just didn't care.

When we have a bbq at home and notice the neighbours have washing out, we go and tell them we're about to light a bbq so they can get the washing in. At least we used to....until one day one side lit a bbq without telling us and smoking out our washing.

My rule is simple....treat other people how you would want to be treated....UNTIL they feck you over....then its all out war!

Tell him you are getting a valeter out to give your car a cleanup due to the abrasive nature of the dust!

If it was my neighbour I'd go round and tell them your having someone out to clean the car professionally and the job will be invoiced to them.
- anyone with half a brain should of warned you before the work started about moving the car.... their own fault.

That's the ONLY resolution i'd be satisfied with.....
