Neighbours kindly hit the Z without tell me

So had a cheeky detailing session this weekend (got some pics but sadly the sun disappeared so they ain't great!)

Any way I notice a scuff on my rear bumper and it was pretty obvious it's been hit, ploughed on thinking the intensive detailing would rid it but sadly not...

Noticed the paint on my car is silver and guess which car has just started parking next to me, a Silver 5 series... would you believe it he has a matching scuff on his bumper :rofl: :oops:

They don't look too bad on my car, but it's pretty scratched and rough on your hands to touch - not happy and not sure what to do. What really pisses me off is he'd have been aware of the impact and his front parking sensors would have been flatlining - yet no knock on the door

Thinking of getting a quote for a repair and presenting it to him or making him aware I will be and he's liable - argh it's a PITA :D
 
I would knock on the door Asap, but keep it polite.

Would the front sensors have been activated during his Manoeuvre?
 
Depends on if he is going backwards ....

On the Porker, all sensors are active going forward or backwards, on the BMWs though only when reversing or when manually turning them on.
 
Tough one, depending on the relationship with your neighbour I would be knocking on his door and asking him if he possibly has anything he would like to tell you. I'd then present him with the pictures and then the car. As you've got no evidence, although it does look like they've done it, of them hitting the car it might be something you just have to deal with.

I feel your pain as I've suffered the same fate on a few occasions, it's even worse when they just think you'll not notice. I'd rather that they just own up as it's very irritating and can be upsetting when your pride and joy you take so much care over is damaged just like an old banger.

They clearly don't give a toss, do think that applies to everyone.
 
Oh boy. :( Tricky one. I reversed my old Mondeo into my neighbor's boat trailer, toe hitch. Poking out off the end of his drive. Put a hole clean through my bumper. But as I couldn't see any damage to the trailer, I've never mentioned it too him. We get on fine many years on.

Not sure what I would do with the shoe on the other foot. May be ask without accusing and be prepared to forget it if they saysit wasn't them. Or pass on your quote politely and stay calm, if they fess up.
 
Go and have a word with him, if he's a prick about it just go and smash all his windows in.!! Don't be a doormat mate...
 
If he was decent he would have fessed up by now. He will probably say you must have hit his car. Scum are like that.
Just go straight to smash his windows in :D
 
It is possible:

a) he/she didn't notice (it's' a small scuff and with the radio on or other distraction it may not be obvious it had happened)
b) it wasn't their car that did it

Give them a knock and be polite. Just tell them you'd like to take a sample of the paint on their bumper and see if it matches to yours (just a bluff I guess).

Same on the newer BMWs - our X3 automatically activates front & rear PDC when manouvering at low speeds
 
Knock on the door - be humble and polite.....always with a try and you can gently point out the matching scrape on his/her bumper. AND perhaps if a multi occupancy household one or other of the drivers hasn't told anyone else....
 
I think you are screwed.

Whilst nice to say on a forum 'go to war with the neighbours' it is not the way to a happy life.

My advice, get a smart repair guy phoned up & pay the £100 to get the scrape fixed on the zed & forget it. If they were going to admit anything, they would have done it the day they marked your car (if it was them).

Coincidences happen... they may have nothing to do with it.

I've had this happen several times over the years, and whilst it makes your blood boil, you will get nothing but anguish by trying to resolve it with the neighbour. Keep calm, get it fixed, move on with your life.

In 2 weeks all will be forgotten.

A few weeks back my next door neighbour's daughter came to visit. Parked next to my car (I say next to it.... she hit the front & bounced off). I saw her do it, took photos as she got out of her car, and spoke to her at the time it happened.

Minor damage to mine (an S class merc worth £50k), no mark on hers. Just for interest, her car was a 10 year old Fiat Punto with multiple dents on every panel all round the car. This girl likes to 'bump park'.

She point blank denied touching the car or causing the damage. Whilst we were talking, the alarm was still going off on the merc.

Massive row ensued, she called me everything from an arrogant pr*ck to a paedophile. Brilliant.

Just get it fixed :)

To be fair to the neighbour, with his parking sensor flatlining, he may have thought he was close, but was not aware that he had scuffed the car?

It is a difficult one, how well do you know the nighbour? It could cause some tension so be wary.

I would definitely not be knocking on the door asking "Do you have something to tell me"? No matter how politely you ask this question, it's fairly accusatory and putting somebody on the spot is only going to make them defensive and potentially confrontational.

If you're going to talk to them, be honest and straight. Don't be accusatory but ask open questions, "perhaps somebody else has access to driving the car who might know something about it?" Effectively, try to give them an opportunity to leave the conversation without having to admit or deny the scrape, but allow them time to stew on what happened, come up with a story and deal with their own moral compass.
 
Someone managed to hit mine today. Pretty sure it was the guy from the shop next door.
Anyone know the best place to take it around the Solihull area? There is a small piece of plastic missing from the bumper.
 
I feel for you mate, as everyone has said I would start off polite ,point out that the paint matches their car and the heights of the scuffs all coincide, if no joy then possibly call the police I don't know ,that may be overkill, this is the problem with cars like ours, they are our pride and joy ,in an ideal world we would only use them as a second car or a sunny weekend car , personally we are lucky at the moment as my wife uses ours M,T,W only gym lunch etc , but when the see the the complete lack of respect some show to their own property what effing chance do we have I've seen some people deliberately go out of their way to show how they don't care about their cars , and wear it as a badge of honour ,I dread it when the wife takes ours out and parks up ,to be honest she is very good and takes care the fron passenger side rim is knackered though :telloff:

Had a car park dent on the drivers door removed by Ryebrook ,cannot see it now brill repair,brill body shop ,then we parked in a car park in Stratford u Avon ,I saw two kids kicking a ball about , on the way home I sat in the passenger seat and spotted a virtually invisible dent , little shits kicking the ball did it f***ing A***holes , :headbang: nothing I could do , if it happened on my comp car not bothered as it will be a Taxi in Manchester in two years time ,
Some will say your too precious about it or it's only a car ,well I say F*** Y**. :fuelfire: rant over
 
This happened to me a year ago in my old merc ,went out early morning to a dent in my front wing....I had a go at the workmen in my back lane as it could only have been them,they told me to **** off I couldn't prove it. called the police, they came and had a look at their van and my car, saw the scuff on their van with what looked like my blue paint and told them that if they had anything they wanted to tell them it would be best now... as they could test the paint from samples, they admitted it and their boss rang me that night and paid for the damage.

That's an amazing story, the police actually came out for that! :o
 
A few years ago I watched through mt living room window as a woman reversed into my Z3, pushing it back up on its suspension- very noticeable. I charged outside and knocked on her window ( she was still trying to get out of a small parking space) and she got out, completely oblivious. I was furious, but we looked at my bumper and there was nothing, not even a scratch! She had a nipper in a baby seat and it seemed to do no damage so I told her off and let it go. I was almost annoyed there wasn't any damage!

Yep, it was quite a large dent needed a new front wing.
