Hi, basically need some work doing on the car. BMW wolves are gonna charge Me 15 quid for a runabout whilst its having work done on it.

Is this right? When I used to hand my audi in it was free car and fuel, and If I remember correctly I used too get a V8 A8 from the dealership. Lol!

usually thats for insurance?

Sytner leicester will do the same, unless I can provide a policy cover note on collection...

tell them that !

tell them there's another dealer similar distance away that has offered you a free loaner in the past & you'll take your next 3 years servicing there instead.

I've been told this everytime, though its cheaper if you arrange your own insurance (Privilege have additional temporary cover FOC in my case). However, when it has come to pay / collect car, I've never actually been charged for it, even when i had a car for 3 days... luck of the draw I guess!

Becoming the way of the world as everyone tries to screw a few more £'s out of their customers (bit of a rant could get started if I tried).

Sytner in Sutton don't charge and frankly I don't think they should if the car they sold you cannot be fixed while you wait. they will eaqually collect and return foc and if I did not stop them wash it too.
Rant a bit and it'll be waived.

iirc its just for insurance, my local place told me it was £10 unless i could prove i had cover, i just took my insurance cover note in which had something on it about covering cars for hire or loan or something, anyway the guy was happy and off i went, no money to pay.

Sytner in Notts also provide a free car (from a range of ones, including a new shape zed!), or pickup and dropoff for FOC.
Definately worth having a look round :)

Yep - its very dealer specfic - i think they are all meant to do it - but ive never been charged when on the phone they said they would....its a poor service tho - thats the LEAST they could give you for gratis - esp when doing warranty work!!!

I've only had to do this once with a previous non-BMW. Renault wanted £15/day for insurance for their courtesy car (a 1.2 Modus in place of my 2.0 Clio, hmmm), despite my car being back in to fix an error they'd made, all under warranty. I ranted like hell and finally the dealer picked up the cost. I did have to fuel it though, as it was almost as if they'd drained the tank before giving the car to me...

I've never had to pay, but then I don't use loaners very often (I can get the train from the dealer to work).

Last time I had one from a BMW dealer they gave me a Mini Cooper, about which I wasn't pleased; hardly commensurate with the car I'd dropped off. Sadly (for them) it was an alternative to my usual dealer that I was trialling. I won't be back.

It’s difficult times out there for all businesses and each and everyone has to try and maintain profit levels in a market of decline or go under with an inevitable loss of jobs. But that doesn’t stop anyone’s ability to negotiate a deal even if its a waiver of an insurance charge for a loan car. Why not ask for 10% discount of the total bill when you receive it especially if you pay cash as this avoids the credit card charges. I’m not sure I understand the requirement to provide a replacement car of similar status when the car is in for a short term repair/service. For a long term problem I can agree ‘like for like’ particularly if it’s a warranty issue but surely for 24hrs or less your pride (or vanity) can put up with something less exotic. Talking of excessive charges anyone notice that petrol previously at a high of $109 a barrel has now dropped to $79 – any change in the pump price, of course not still 110p a gallon at the pump in the UK – NOW THERE’S SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT.........!

I honestly would drive anything if I had some form of transport while the car is in.

I was once given a pink convertible micra when I had to have work done a previous car.

Eitherway, ill head down with insurance docs and hopefuly they will waive the 15 quid.

I got a wedding to pay for next Jan!

Believe me when I say I will be literally living of crackers and water for the next two months!

Hope the repairs etc go OK. Know the wedding feeling - No1 son has just declared his intent for next August so bang goes the nice quiet Greek island holiday for me and the wife.....

My local dealer charges £12 for the loan car to cover insurance cost. But loan car is free if customer's BMW was bought from them. Its bodyshop however requires customers to arrange their own insurance, but the loan cars are free.

Phone the garage and ask them what loan car they will be giving you, they will know. Then contact you insurer and get them to cover it, usually free of charge if your fully comp and they will fax the cover-note to the dealer. That what I do usually.

Hardly pride or vanity. Fashionable Mini versus ubiquitous 3-Series (which looks like it's your Dad's if you're a young 'un anyway). But then I never mentioned 'status' so that's probably why.

My problem is twofold; consistency of message and parity with the competition.

Firstly, BMW vehicles and dealer servicing are sold as premium products; it's not like I'm paying no frills money in either respect, so why should I expect no frills or entry level service? Especially when there are plenty of BMW's available (courtesy cars are generally staff vehicles). I've paid for a car that's easy to drive distance in comfort, I have a need to travel (ergo a need for a loaner), so how is it acceptable for the benefits of a premium vehicle to suddenly be discarded or denied simply because the dealer would really rather keep the money?

Secondly, my brother when servicing his Audi TT always got a higher spec car, and never did they give him a VW Polo or Seat Ibiza. If they can do it, why not these guys?

I get lent cars for NOTHING, 318d leather, mspec with almost half a tank of fuel for the weekend!

BMW Hexagon of Highgate.

Accept nothing less!
