It looks like there are some

a) quite expensive tools to do this circa £200 for an Autel 702
b) some cheap cables on ebay with software
c) some cheap one purpose tools on ebay from china

can anyone recommend any of these option from there own experience? i'm reluctant to pay BMW £50 for the pleasure

Where are you based? There might well be someone on here local to you with the diag tools etc. I got two lots of software and cables, first off flea bay which were a complete PITA to install but worked, then went to the BM Technics (now sadly defunct) version 'cause they gave support.

good suggestion, I'm based in Ashbourne (near derby), so if there is anyone local with the appropriate gear it would be greatly appreciated....

alternatively a company called BM-Cables (on ebay) seems to offer a one click install that I might go for

Got my new wheels to fit this weekend :-) so that will keep probably be enough car related activity this weekend, but I need to sort it out for my MOT in next month

i just got this one myself ,its easy to install and works but no instructions ,so i had to do a bit guess work when coming down to actually using it, but there is stuff on you tube that could help.
worth getting cheap enough and does the job.

Yep I also got the BMcables one, works a treat. Just use Google to find out how to use the software.

thanks guys, ordered (£20 via "best offer" if anyone else is interested)

Sorted. I wouldn't say that INPA is the most user friendly software ... But clearing error codes on both satellite b "things" and all done for 20quid and 30mins faffing
