need Sound System/electronics features manual

Hi folks,

Brand new here. Just bought myself a 2006 3.0si with the premium package. My first sports car and I am thrilled to be a Z4 driver.

I'm still learning the details of what features my car has. From what I've read in the brochures I thought the Auxiliary Input was included with a 2006 premium package (Business CD sound system). But I'm ready to concede that it was not. I sure can't find it. If it exists it must be in a very inconvenient location.

I have downloaded an owners manual but it gives no details on any electronic features. After a lot of searching I cannot locate a separate manual for this stuff. Can someone link me to one?

My steering wheel has buttons to indicate there might be phone connectivity. Also have two buttons at the rear of the center console with a symbol of a phone with "SOS" and a wrench. Surely there's a manual for this stuff.

Any help would be appreciated.

Aux in was an option, I don't have it either with a similar spec car. There's a DIY on here somewhere how to fabricate one.

You have to subscribe to the BMW assistance service for the rear console buttons to be of any use, though in an emergency, they may help you to a minimal extent anyway if it were life threatening.

If you have a phone cradle on the center cubby door, it has a bluetooth pairing button. You need the passkey though. A dealer or independent with BMW software can tell you what it is if you don't have the original card. It is also printed on a sticker on the TCU bolted to the rear bulkhead in the trunk, under the carpet. You may need to remove it from the bulkhead to read it or use a mirror. With no pairing button, you should be able to still pair by setting your phone to search for bluetooth immediately after turning on the ignition.

I have a pdf of the radio manual, but it doesn't really tell you anything you couldn't figure out. I also have some notes I made about the telephony in a Word document from random internet sources. PM me your email address and I'll send either or both the files if you think they'd be helpful.
 
Thanks bcw for the reply. Well, no phone cradle with pairing button on the center door so I'm SOL I guess. But it seems wasteful to have a talking-face button to accecpt and end a phone conversation (that much I got out of the owner's manual) if there is no Bluetooth capability. Same for the R/T button to display phone book entries. Arrrgh! I assumed that was a feature I was getting when I test drove it.

As far as Aux In... I did self-educate myself on the radio features, i.e., fumbled with the buttons enough to figure out it has no Aux In mode, only radio or CD. So it would seem that no DYI mod will help. I'll dig into the DYI threads later to make sure. Or I may look for a replacement radio.

Aux will appear as an option as soon as a cable is fitted. No coding required and simple job to do. If you have one it will be in the plastic panel below the heater controls and above the ashtray.
 
You still may have bluetooth without the cradle and pairing button.

Just tried it... and holy crap! It worked! It did ask for password which I will dig out of the trunk. I've never used "bluetooff" but will be digging into it now. I guess I'll fumble finger around on the steering wheel buttons until I get that figured out.

Man if I have bluetooth working I guess I can just use my smartphone for music and skip using my MP3 player. Might not need to do the DIY Aux cable.
