been member for couple weeks and it's my first post

had my Z4 3.0 for past 3 years and wanted some recommendation
car still goes strong w/o any problems but since M version is out, should I move up to Z4M or get forced induction system? like turbo or supercharger

anyone switched from 3.0 to Z4M? pros & cons?

thanks

It's up to you but if your just looking for more power the cheapest option is to supercharge your 3.0. If you fancy a change then go for the M. The ESS twinscrew kit is superb and it will give you more hp and torque than an M and there are no problems with reliability. You could buy an M and suprcharge that if you really want, that would be the ultimate solution! :driving:

I was checking the bmw site last night to build an Z4 M Roadster... aside from the extra power and the "M" emblem on the car, any other advantages?

I see a few options offered for the M Roadster not available for the 3.0 (like carbon fiber interior trim), but any other advantages I'm missing?

LSD is standard on the M, and "proper" steering, no run flats, better brakes ...

I'm going to chime in here and attempt a slight :hijacked:
My question is this....if you get the ESS kit, is everything that would need to be upgraded on the car upgraded? As far as the rear end, driveshaft that sorta stuff.....
remember i'm a noob when it comes to this stuff.

The existing parts can easily handle the extra power, even the airbox is good for 450hp without worrying about additional airflow. As with any power mod the drivetrain parts will wear quicker if you use more power more of the time. Having said that I've seen various E46 330's M3's etc which have done over 50k on superchargers with no issues. If you speak to Simpson Motorsport they will tell you not to bother improving the drive train until something eventually wears out, at that time you might want to replace it with an upgraded part. One thing you might want to uprate however is the brakes. If you just want to blast down the motorway then slow down that should be sufficient. If you want to go round corners fast that's a whole different ball game!

The ESS kit is complete with everything you need...less tools and such.

Ha! Missed some of that stuff ;-) When I said it was complete, it's just complete for the super charger..new injectors, cooling unit, ecu remap, etc. They surely don't upgrade your brakes as part of the supercharger package...but wouldn't it be nice! :P

Welcome to the Forum! Just be aware that any SC or Turbo mods can significantly reduce your trade-in/sales value

Tanks for the info, that is exactly what I was referring too. Tanks on the other answers too. Now I just have to figure if A: How to get the 6k B: Am I willing to put 6k on an already fun car C: Do it myself or pay a professional too and finally D: Get new/upgraded brakes before or after.
