You could try replacing the diode pack as enuff_zed suggests, alternative is to find someone who refurbs repairs alternators and starter motors, had my 2.5 Alternator refurbed by local guy, far cheaper than replacing. Trouble is these places are few and far between today and take some finding.

Get the number off your alternator, then look for a regulator/diode pack to fit it.
Should be a lot cheaper and it is actually just possible to replace it in situ.

By number I take it you mean just from realoem?

To be fair, I haven't. However I just couldn't imagine this is the issue because it was replaced less than 10k miles ago. But I'll still check it as you never know!

I found a place that sells them for 130 and you then send yours back for a small discount. Presumably they'll then refurb your old one.

They also seem very easy to replace to be honest.
