How do you stop the climate fan from turning on when you first get into your car and start it? I've read the manual but no help there so I phoned the dealer and asked them and the guy went though the procedure of starting the car and manually turning off the fan and then stopping the engine, removing the key and so on which appeared to work when we went through it and starting the car again, I did all of this while on the phone using blue tooth connection ( this may be important). Anyway, I said thanks and got out of the car and went away. I hour later I went back to the car got in and started it up and guess what the fan came on again straight away.
I thought the key fob was supposed to remember your settings from the last time you were in the car and use these setting for the next time. Now, when I was going through it with the dealer it all appeared to be sorted as I turned the fan off stopped the engine opened the door closed the door took the key out and set the alarm etc etc while sitting in the car taking to the guy on the phone. The only thing that didn't such down when I removed the key was the screen which I assume as I was using blue tooth remained active for the duration of the call.

If anybody can help I would appreciate it. All I want is to get into the car, start it, and no climate features come on.

I had this on my E46 and it turned out to be the final stage resistor, google E46 Hedgehog and you'll get the info so you can see if the problem sounds the same. Not sure if the Z suffers with this or not but may be worth a look, it was an easy DIY fix for about £30.

Hi Davegt,

Thanks for the response. Fortunately I don't think this is he problem as the fan appears to work OK. I think it more to do with the key fob not remembering your last settings, unless its supposed to work in the way I explained. I phoned the dealer again today and his going to find out how it should work as he wasn't sure either.

I think what you are describing is just a feature of the car. As you say, even if you leave the car with the fan off, after a period of time, it seems to reset so that when you return, the climate control is back on.

Thanks, If that's how it should work then fine, I was more annoyed with myself that I couldn't figure out how to get it to stay off :D
