What kind of stuff will you be recording Mr. PhilD? Will you need night-vision?

Predictable question.
Phil, I have a very good friend that is very knowledgeable about video cameras and there features. He told me that there is one feature that most consumers look at as a "must have" on video cameras. Care to guess what that feature is? The problem with zoom lenses is that most users have no idea how best to use them and as a result abuse the feature. For the most part unless you are trying to capture a bear walking around the shore and you are on a cruise ship there is no need for a zoom. Get closer to the subject is the best but if you insist make sure you get a camera that has some level of image stabilization. Zoom is over rated, over used and should be left for the semi-trained videographer was his comment.

My comment is get a very expensive one and bring it to HC so we can all play with it.

Outstanding. I know of a slightly warm betamax (used by a local TV station) I can get my hands on. No warranty, works great and has just a little scuff on it. LMK 8)

There was a test last week on tv in the UK where the Sony and Toshiba were tested. Sony won it hands down for being able to track fast moving objects and so.

If I was in the market, I would get the Sony.

Agree....SONY DVW-790 WSP DIGITAL BETA CAMCORDER is very nice..Phil, let's not get cheap here now, remember all the fuzzy, jittery initiation videos we had in years past. Pony up and get a good one this time. :)
