Need new tyres soon

I've just checked my rear tyres which are just on 3mm so I will need to change fairly soon as most experts recon you loose alot of grip in the wet when you go below 3mm. The fronts are reading 5mm so a bit of life still left in them.

I have 2 options:

1- Replace the rears with run flats for about £400 (maybe moer with fitting)
2- Replace all 4 tyres with standard tires from something like £400 if I go for falken's which some have recomended on this forum.

The trouble is I don't know anyone else that has use of heard of flakens and I don't wan't to get poor performance from whatever tyres I end up buying.

Also if I replace all 4 with standard tyres will the tire pressure light still work to let me know if the tires are low on pressure?
 
There are a number of forum members that use or have used Falken 452's

They are what I'm going to try when I need to change my runflats, althoug I will change the rims at the same time.
 
A few months ago I had the same dillema.
Finally I replaced all 4 with standard tyres, continental sp2.
They are a lot better than the RFTs. Car stays better on road and not hard.
As there is no room for spare in the car, I bought also the fixing kit in case of flat tyre.

Pressure check system (light) works fine.
 
no experience with the Falkens, but recently changed from the OEM Bridgestones to Michelin ZP (run flats) and they are MUCH better :D
 
As srhutch noted a number of members here have gone to Falken 452's and to the best of my knowledge all have provided very positive feedback... :thumbsup:

My own experience has only been with Goodyear F1's and they are quite excellent... :thumbsup:
 
I'm one of the one's who went with Falken 452's. They are way superb over the runflats. I wish the car would of came with them. I regularly take the car around the scenic drive of red rock canyon and occasionally valley of fire, the runflats performed good, though they made steering quite interesting over bumps and didnt seem to grip so well in the corners. Then i switched to the Falkens, what a difference! Not only am I able to push a little harder in turns but when I go over a bumpy spot it doesn't feel like the cars going to loose it at all. The tires are quiet (which may mean I'm just not pushing them hard enough).

I'd recommend replacing all four tires at once no matter what brand/type. There have been numerous posts where people change only two (usually when they put on a different brand compared to front) and end up with all sorts of handling issues.

The only comparison I can really make is between the runflats and the 452's, but there are a few folk on here who have tried other performance non runflat tires and have tried Falkens. That said, if you go with Falkens, you will not be dissapointed.
 
Thanks for the feedback Aebous, Falkens seeem so much cheaper than alot of other brands so i think I'll try them. I should be able to get all 4 for less than £400 while if I went for Goodyear or another brand I will be looking at more like £600
 
Just one question I have found the UK website to buy the tyres from but I'm wondering how I get them fitted? I can hardly stick all 4 in the car and drive down to my local fitter. Do you think I can arrange to get them delivered to the fitter?
 
I changed all mine to Falkens,, fantastic difference,, as for the fitting, I have a garage behind my works, fitted the lot for £30 :thumbsup: most tyre fitters will do it, or try a moblie one, depending on what rims you have (some mobiles cannot do 18`s).
 
I've heard of some people putting two in the trunk and two in the passenger seat. BTW if you do that you have to take a pic.

have you tried blackcircle.com, they deliver to the fitter :thumbsup: and prices are good
 
when changing your run flats to a standard tyre what is the best alternative to a spare tyre ie can of foam stuff or compressor and foam and where is the best place to purchase these things from as I want to buy good quality as I dont want to be left stranded?

I didn't know there were two options, I have a can of foam from Halfords that i thought filled the tyre with air and foam?

I have used black circles before but didn't realise they stock Flaken 452's
 
Whereabouts in the UK are you? Event Tyres are cheap, good and will fit the tyres wherever you like - home, work, wherever. And they have Falkens as I already checked for my next appointment. :)
