Need help with wheels!

Hi all. I've had my car for nearly 7 years now and still love it.
It's fitted with 106 turbine wheels which I've never been a big fan of and I keep saying I'm going to change them but never have, mainly because I don't understand wheel/tyre sizes and don't know where to start.
It's now got to the point where my current wheels need a refurb and I'm thinking new wheels could be a better way to go.
Unfortunately I don't have masses of spare cash so I'm after any suggestions for something reasonably priced and better looking which will fit. As an indication, I quite like variations of 5 spoke designs such as 108's, 224's or similar.
Any recommendations and help with sizes/fitment would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy

It may be worth re-posting this in the Wheels and Tyres section and asking advice from Mr Wilks the forum wheel guru.

Its the right way to go imo if your current wheels are shabby
Budget is always going to factor so you need to think of a figure you have to spend & work a solution out to that end
I do know of a couple of sets of forum MV2s for reasonable money that could be bought & fitted as they are
Maybe not minters but it could be a lower cost option to up the size to 18s from current 17s :?
The 106s will also have a value even in a shabby state so that can be factored in
