A nut on some string fed through the electronics box in the engine bay then tape the wire to it and pull back up. Make sure you know which pin you're connecting to, the BMW instructions are wrong for a few models.

You can't connect to any other pin, though if you put it in an incorrect empty one it *shouldn't* cause any issues but don't take that as gospel.
