Need Help - I flipped my lid

Using the instructions posted in the "How-to" section, I removed my Z4 soft top to repair/replace the motor. The remove/replace went pretty smooth, no major problems. Until I tried it out for the first time. During the install, I put the top up manually and then used the button to lock it into place. I then tried to lower the top and got nothing. The locks don't retract and there is no apparent action at all. If I used the key button to initiate lowering of the top the windows will lower but then nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone know how to retract the locks manually?

If you're not getting motor/pump noises check the fuses then all the connections to the motor. There's also a micro switch you can check that ensures the shelf is in place before the motor will operate. What lights are you getting on the panel? Flashing amber, Red?

There are a few people on here with experience of roof issues, a few clues on what you're seeing, hearing etc or not seeing, hearing will give them a few clues to go on.

The microswitch makes sense since the shelf is still out. I did not see the switch or any connections to it. Any idea where it is located?

Edit: when I locked down the lid the red light was on and then went out as the locks event into place and the windows rolled up. When I use the key the red light comes on momentarily as the windows are rolled down. It doesn't stay on though since the locks never disengage.

If the shelf is out, the interlock is doing it's job. That's probably your problem. I've not taken mine out so can't tell you but maybe if you put the shelf back in you'll prove it one way or the other.

The switch was the problem. I found it and wedged something in it to activate it and the top works.

Thanks!!!

Yay! I finally helped someone fix something on here :)

And it's GREATLY APPRECIATED too!!! For a few minutes there i was afraid that my attempt to save $1200 had met with failure  Sometimes it just takes a little something to jog the brain.

The top motor is replaced and the seal is back on around the edge just-in-time fro it to start raining.

The wife will be glad that the top is functional again :driving:
