Looking to get mt first z4...been wanting for awhile and think i found a good deal, however I dont know TOO much regarding issues I should be concerned about before purchasing.
Its a 2015 35i, 31k miles, one owner, carfax is clean/only shows title renewals, thats it
What should I be looking for when I go to check it out?

If that car cranks too long / struggles to start and has rough idle you may have a failing high pressure fuel pump (HPFP).

At that age / milage, most things should be fine, just look out for the usuals.

I would say that's unlikely for that year and mileage.

What service history does it have ?
Mine 2010 had 29000 miles when i bought it, i had a slight misfire on cold start if it had stood more than 2 weeks but cured that with fuel system cleaner, the only other issue I had was dreaded split rear light units but yours will have the newer 2 bolt design so should be ok.

if the service history is good and the car starts and drives fine then just buy it.

Unfortunately the carfax only shows registration/dmv updates, not a single thing about any sort of mantinence. Which Im sure could mean that he simply did the oil changes for example on his own, but its still uneasy seeing no history

Known issues on the twin 89s are well documented , though the age of the car you're after should be in your favour initially.
Hpfp
Adaptive ride shocks (if fitted)
Injector failure
Waterpump

I'd expect some if not all of the above will need attention between 4/8yrs 30k/60k

Had all the above fail on mine. All fixed but somehow has ruined the engine as power delivery is shjte now until fully warmed up.

Most unreliable and costly car I’ve ever owned. And yes I keep saying it , cos it’s true. Makes me sad and mad simultaneously.

It must have some service history somewhere! If not, walk away.

How soon did those go out on you? Mileage wise

HPFP @ 6K
Injectors and water pump @ 35k
Adaptive shock (1 so far) @37k

That’s not even touching on cracked wheels, full DCT replacement, new exhaust, numerous software updates due to failing electronics, roof alignment issues...

But by far it’s the most recent injector and water pump failure that’s been the most affecting of the current poor power delivery, it changes gears (DCT) with all the finesse of a 5 year old, dropping power before a shift and after etc

I’ve spent close to £2k replacing all the common things it could be (coils, plugs, pipe work, valve cover, diagnostic and remap kit, vanos solenoids etc) as no one can find the reason it’s faltering during shifts. Still no further forward.

If it wasn’t so beautiful looking I’d have thrown it off a cliff by now.

If only I could find a replacement id love as much...

Didn't realise you were still having those faults. Have you taken any more logs of the problem?

I remember seeing your previous ones and remember not seeing any obvious issues. Would be keen to take another look if you have some more recent logs.

If I were you, after trying all those remedies I would be tempted to take the car to Darren Wood BMW in Stockport and ask either Darren or Mike to check the installation of all those new parts over and look for mistakes that Williams may have made. I went there recently and was really impressed with Mike's knowledge, much higher standard of mechanic than the techs at Williams. Certainly worth a phone call first to see if they have any ideas.
