Need advice - hit from behind

This Monday i had a lorry driver nudged my rear end :? . Since then the insurance company have said that they will repair it on his policy so i don't need to claim. Aviva have been sending me from pillar to post to their preferred damage repair centers. First one (3 miles down the road) was too busy, next one based on Kent and i am in Surrey they said it was too far. Now they have given me another company who will collect called Solus. Anybody had any experience using this body shop? It looks like i may need to replace the boot lid, bumper and number plate took a hit as well. It could have been worse. But it would be good to get opinions as to if the boot lid needs replacing. Looking at REALOEM the trunk lid (41003420711) the price for this is about £2k (cant find it in the UK but can be had from US). The bumper if they replace (51127170616) 620 (euros), so i guess with replacing both items, prep and paint the cost could be around a ballpark of £3.5k. Does this make sense. If they do decide to write-off the car i could get it done slightly cheaper.

This is my only car and daily driver (and i have just had it two years), I am hoping that they don't write this off

Any moral support would be appreciated :D

Raj.

Take it to your local BMW dealer and get them to quote for the repairs.

Unless there is a specific clause in a policy that states otherwise you're free to have it repaired wherever you wish - and, as this isn't your policy that's being claimed against, any such wording in the other driver's policy won't affect you. You have a legal right to choose who repairs your car, this is covered under the Block Exemption Regulation, and insurers can't force you to use their body shops.

Hi PerryGunn,
Cheers for that never knew i could do that, learnt something today

Actually, if you are claiming off someone else you do have a duty in law to mitigate your loss, and the insurance company will argue this (successfully) if you push it too far.

I had someone run into the rear of my daily recently. I went through my own insurance company. Cheap car and they basically said it was not worth repairing and gave my £1100 quid to put towards the next one. Car is now cat D and I'm still driving it, with a small dent in the tail gate. The other insurance company chased me for a few days to let them sort it. I guess cheaper for them. I chose to go through my insurance, as I was at no fault, so no effect on my policy and I know where I am working. :)

Last time this happened to me I claimed against the insurer of the car that hit me.

After 30+ years working in insurance claims I knew the benefits of doing it that way were:-

I could take it wherever I wanted.
I didn't have to pay the excess then claim it back.
There was no claim registered on my policy, although obviously I declared it next time I renewed.

Hope you get a good outcome.

Thanks buzyg & Mr Tidy for your input very much appreciated  I will continue this journey and lets see what the appraiser comes back with. Best its fixable worst its a write-off (only one of two ways to go :D )
