I'm currently looking around for a Z4 (Coupe), and would like someone to bother, perhaps on MSN or via PM, for advice about cars. I don't want to constantly ask questions on here, so perhaps there is someone friendly that'll help me out? If so, PM me! :)

Ask on here, this is what a forum is for and you'll get a good cross section of views and experiences.

And / or use the search function as well.

Duckson nailed it. Here you'll get various opinions as opposed to just one. All we ask is a quick search first to see if it's been asked before.

Ok, well, I'll just post all my Qs here :)

There's a car I'm looking at that has 14,000 miles on it, and I've been told the car doesn't need a service for another 4,000 miles. This will be the first service! Does that sound right? It's nearly 2 years old.

Also, is the M any lower than the normal 3.0si?

If it's not an M, it should have had at least an Oil Service, proper Inspection is next.

If it's an //M there's more to it than that, should have had a 1200 mile inspection which is very important.

Servicing is pretty much based on fuel usage, so you don't need to necessarily hold it to a calendar.

I know about not holding it to a calendar, as it's based on fuel usage. It's a 3.0si by the way.

Why should it have at least had an oil service by now? Could it be possible that it would go 18,000 miles without a service if it has been returning 35mpg for example?

I think it's a mileage/year thing. If the miles come first then change it. If a year goes buy then you change it. Of course I could be thinking of the brake fluid (2 years)

Yes, although IIRC you'll have to get it done at 2 years anyway, if you don't get to the mileage point before then.

Right, so it's just about to hit 2 years old... It'll need an oil service then, regardless. That's fine, it's only £150. But, just to make totally sure, it doesn't need to have had one after 1 year, or any service at all prior to now??? Want to make sure I don't buy a lemon!

Does the 3L still have a running in service @ 1200 miles? If so make sure this has been done and done as near as dammit to 1200 miles.
