Need a phone I can send a text from car

I have a Samsung Galaxy A11. All works okay but I do not have the function of sending a text. I don't want to use Android Auto to do that, but I think it would. My older Android phone did that, but the thing died; replacement Galaxy A11 does not.

My phone company has a "sale" on iphones now....Their iphone 13 looks good, but NOWHERE can I find a BMW link showing what phones will work with my car. There are links out there, but they are inoperable: https://www.bmw.com.mt/en/topics/of...evices/bmw-connected-drive-compatibility.html

If you have an Android phone that allows you to send texts without using an addiitional app like Android Auto, etc: Please list your phone model.

If you have an iphone 13 and it allows you to send text, PLEASE reply!

You don't want to use Android Auto so I guess you won't want to use Apple CarPlay as well.

I have iphone13 and I use Siri via Apple CarPlay to read out and reply message. But I don't know if my car can text without CarPlay or Android Auto. Based on this, I would say it may not help if you change to iphone.

Apple CarPlay works really well. I press and hold the voice button and it activates Siri so I can send a text.

You don’t even need Apple CarPlay to work with Siri. All my cars work with Siri but only 1 has CarPlay.

Yep Siri should work as long as the phone is paired with the car and use the normal voice commands

Thanks. I understand that Apple Carplay and Android Auto work fine for those who use it, but in my case I'd only be using them for the text feature, which is not enough reason to run the app on the car and phone.
Thanks for the info on iphone13. If the phone could text without using the other apps you'd probably have discovered that when you initially linked your phone to the car. But that's my uneducated guess. <g>

Can you please list a phone that works that way in your car, I mean without using another app?

You don’t need to run an app on Apple CarPlay. It’s part of the os. Once set up it connects every time. Even if you don’t use any apps CarPlay is connected and Siri will work.
I have no idea how android auto works as I don’t have an android phone.

I also think that you can activate Siri without CarPlay. If I recall correctly, but with CarPlay you get more options as it comes up on the screen.

Maybe because I activate the Alexa and using CarPlay, the voice command button either activate BMW's own voice control or Alexa.

I have an old iphone 7SE

Thank you. And that allows you to send a text from your car without using CarPlay, right. That is good to know. I would like to get a new phone because my current Samsung Android Galaxy's battery is about worthless, but I'll not get a new phone just for that. However, if I can find a phone that allows me to text I would probably get it.

I use a Sony Xperia 10 Mk IV at the moment, and can confirm it works using the car's own "send text" option with no Android Auto involved. Although since I'm a bit of a mumbler it can take me a few attempts to dictate anything intelligible!

I'm the OP. I updated my phone, mainly due to the old one's decaying battery, but also with the hopes it would allow me to send a text from the car (i.e., "BMW, send text"). I prefer not to use Android Auto. I want to have this feature as I sent texts to myself often as things occur to me as I drive. 8)

My new phone works: Samsung A14 Model# SM-A146UZKAATT.
