need a little help (hardtop prep kit)

hello everyone,
I've recently been told that the hardtop prep kit (for my 2004 z4) is not possible to retrofit unless i go to a specialist body shop. I was wondering if anyone knows where in the London area i could have this done?

i've already bought the roof, found a nice black one, my car is the dark blue colour (deep sea blue i think its called) so i will need to get the roof resprayed. I did ask the dealer when I bought the car back in december if it had a hardtop prep kit fitted and he said it did not. Not sure what to do now, any way i can easily check if my car has the kit already?

Perjoss - welcome to the Forum, give us some details of your Zed. As Lacroupade says if it's an original UK supplied car then its got the kit fitted as standard.

it appears the prep kit is not very hard to fit yourself. If i find that i do not have one fitted already I will just buy the parts and have a go at fitting it myself.
 
Check out this thread which shows you how to fit the kit to a car that doesn't have it.

But you should do.....remove the bit of plastic cover that koolchris refers to and you should have these holes......if you do then you just drop the roof on and tighten it down with the special tool provided. Its easier to see than explain but the piece of ribbed plastic at the right in this photo actually sits in the plastic cover you are about to remove so might come away with it...but it just slides in from the end between two little ridges.

The two metal semi circles provide connectivity for the heated rear window.

If you haven't got the hard top prep kit already in place then your car is potentially not an original UK car.....! ALL UK cars came with the prep kit. Look at the pics Lacroupade posted and remove the rubber cover and you can see if the kit is fitted. Me - I would be back to the dealer like a shot and get the history of the vehicle. Of course the dealer/seller (BMW ot Indi.) may not know what their talking about!
