does anyone know of a wire in the harness in the trunk that i can tap into for a 12v supply? finally making progress on my soundplicity module, i just need this last bit to finish the install. please and thankyou

The number plate bulb wire?

I'm not sure, do a search for the "facelift rear light mod" as it explains needing a 12v wire I think, as the pre-facelift lights are two stage, the facelift aren't.

i dont think there are any with constant power as all the lighting is only activated when the headlights are on. would be easy to tap into the cigarette supply and run a wire back to the boot. only a 5 min job

How about the boot light? Should be permanently live with the boot switch completing the circuit by giving an earth when the boots opened, so permanent +ve, switched -ve. Just take your permanent earth from elsewhere.

the battery is in the boot, why not just use that?
not sure, i have sort of an irrational fear of batteries that big, so i thought i would ask around.
What are you afraid of? I thought US guys were scared of nothing. :D

Seriously, just get an in-line fuse and a terminal big enough to put directly on the battery post.

Edit - plus if you do tap into an existing feed you need to consider the extra current you'll be drawing through that fuse. I don't know how many amps your soundplicity module draws but before tapping in you'll need to check the existing fuse will take the extra load.

My Ctek trickle charger came with a feed which attaches to the battery and works without any problems, so as suggested a feed with an in-line fuse would seem to be the simple answer and won't require any modifications or interference to other circuits.

Yep, connect direct to the battery and use anin line fuse. This the best way. Its how any permant supply is connected

That is exactly what I did using a 15 amp inline fuse...

LOL, sorry, I know it's completely off-topic but I read the title as "need a V12 in the trunk".... was thinking that'd be awesome!!!

Actually that is a roll of paper towels which has many uses...

Also, in addition to the the inline fuse there is a low voltage cut off that will keep the battery voltage from dropping below 10.5 volts as I recall. The install was approved by my local BMW dealer as it was installed when the car was under warranty.

I looked at WLH's pic and thought how similar the contents of his trunk are to mine - why would you not have a roll of kitchen towels in your boot ? I bet that there are wet wipes, a micro fibre cloth, a torch and an ice scraper in there as a minimum too :D

Sorry, totally off-topic OP

Damn, you've pretty much nailed the contents of my boot too!

(missed the detailing spray, bottles of water, and jelly babies :) )

finally got my module working tonight, after some (a lot) of guessing where things go, the vids BSW has put up make it look so simple. it wouldnt be had if i had know what i was doing. 30 minute job tops. but there arent any proper directions anywhere. and BSW was less than helpful, as in i couldnt get ahold of them to save my life. but it's done now, and it works great. i didnt know about an in-line fuse till i got back on here tonight. will have to get one of those tomorrow. (i did end up wiring it to the battery) works great. i was so tired of listening to the radio. :P
