Is the bulp on it's way out?? :S

Anyone else had this issue, it's an 07 plate!!! My 53 plate Clio still has the original bulbs!!

I too have never known a bulb to go. I would say it is more likely the ballast.

Not something I would attempt to fix as there are 25,000 volts running through them.

I very much doubt it is the bulb as they shoud outlive the car, so I'd be checking the ballast/ignitor components.

Quickest way is by elimination - Just swap your left and right bulbs over to see what results you get.

Don't touch anything with the lights on though!!

volts drop, its the amps that run :poke:

its the mills that kill and the volts that jolt

Most other people, and internet searches suggest it's the bulb and not the ballast??!

Is it easy to swap the bulbs over?? First question.

2nd question if it is the Ballast, will i get that replaced under warranty??

Cheers in advance.

Had one (an aftermarket bulb) go in mine. It also went pink... and then a few weeks later, black. I would expect the bulb to give up soon.

I had the same issue with my S2K, one of the HID's went pink.. a few days later it went purple.. then died... so i'd agree with sixspeed give it a few days and it will be dead.

Smashing time to do dead! - In the midst of winter!

Thanks Gents. BM want £120 a side! Heroes!

Saw your FB post Ali - as others there saying, might be worth investigating HIDs Direct if BMW ain't covering a replacement bulb under warranty.

6k? Chav! lol :P

6K is a little blue for my liking.

Although i found the 6k my friend fitted to his 350z (D2R or maybe D2S bulbs) were less blue then the H7 i had in my toyota celica many years ago.

6k isnt too bad 8k is blue :D

Are you sure these aren't covered under warranty though, they are under AUC warranty according to BMW website.

Renault wouldn't cover the xenons on my Clio when one failed after 2.5 years and still well within warranty. Yes I'd expect better from BMW but wouldn't hold my breath either. For the sake of £55 for new bulbs is it worth the hassle...

My honda was still in its 3 year manufacturers warranty and it wasnt covered.... although they didnt charge to fit them (or so they say!)

That is an old fashioned approach by the manufacturer that bulbs / wiper blades and other consumables are not included. I don't class a Xenon bulb a consumable though if it fails well within the normal expected life time.

Its now gone, was flickered and died a death last nite! joy!

What k are the std bulbs? anyone know?

OK - you have PM on what to do and how to remove, refit bulbs, etc.

Standard xenon is 4500 which is the temp that gives the most useful light output. 6000 takes you to whiter with blue tint. Possibly better style but a drop in useable light output (and more chavvy)

Ali, I'm not sure where you are in Aberdeen but if your bulbs haven't arrived and you need some I have a couple of 6k D2S sitting about. I'm in BoD if you need them but looking out the window I don't imagine you will be using the Z any time soon!
