Hi everyone,

My new Z has obviously had a little bump on the front left (nearside) front bumper corner, and there looks to be a panel gap caused by some plastic clips/fixings broken? (Please see photo below)

Does anyone know what this part number is please and if this is easily fixable?

Many thanks for your help!

George

Hi Jl-c,

Thanks for the reply. Do I need both or will just one do? (I’m sure the offside one is fine).

Bit annoying as the body shop where I had the bumper resprayed said the bracket was fine..... grrrrrr!

Thanks for your help :)

They're well known for becoming weak and causing the sagging you see, could be the bodyshop seen they were in one piece and assumed they were fine

I guess you could do one side but if its been hit, it might be sensible to remove the whole thing for a look see?

My E89 has this problem too. The previous owner had a small bump on the nearside and the repair job was crap! After I purchased the car I took it to a local bodyshop and they straighten much of it (the headlight bumper and gaps all were out of alignment) but still the gap between the bumper and the bonnet is not right.

I asked them if the bracket was broken or something and they told me that when they removed the bumper nothing looked out of place and the bracket looked fine. As someone else here has commented, I have a feeling that these brackets don't do what they supposed to perhaps after a bump or something and causes this problem.

Mine is going to another shop next week to repair the crap paint job on the bumper from the previous owner and also another attempt to get the gaps straightened.

The brackets are a sacrificial part and as said do fail on the E85/6, especially if the bumper has been off for respray, or corner had slight knock on low kerb when parking etc....

Thanks all for your help. I’ve asked the bodyshop if they’ll fit a new bracket if I purchase it for them... hopefully they should as they should have spotted it when repairing!

Looing at the pic again it would appear at least two of the fixings into the wing have failed.
