Nearly Carjacked

Holy shite - nearly lost the Z4 this afternoon.

I was deeply engrossed in a long conference call and Mrs CJ 'borrowed' the Z4 to go shopping.

Parked up in an out of town shopping centre and noticed 2 youths and a girl hoverring around behind her. As she left they regrouped and followed her. OK perhaps she shoudl not have left the store, but we can be wise aftewards.

What ensued is cmic book stuff.
She returned to her car and they dived into theirs parked close by. As she started the engine noticed they had started to reverse and were already close to blocking her in. As luck would have it the slot in front was empty so she shot through it and exited the carpark with them runnin parallel in the next lane. They followed but she had luckily got a car in between her and them. As the traffic moved she made for the dual carriageway and dare I say may have gone over the seed limit as she left them for dead and took a detoured route home.

We can only speculate that the first idea was to block her in and grab the keys. With that having failed then perhaps follow her and 'bump' her or just wait unti boxed in somewhere and jump out.

So it's not something that happens to others, shook her up somewhat too, even though they were clearly bungling idiots. :headbang:

Some lessons learned today that you don't think about. We can all sit ther and say OK - I'd do this, but would you have ???

:o

Glad she had presence of mind to go forwards out the space then

Relieved to hear the zed is still in safe hands :D

Blimey!! :o

Mrs CJ did well there. Quick thinking! What is it all coming to!! I think they should catch these people and use them for clinical trials for things like swine flu!!

Scary, but I've been expecting something like that to happen to me in Liverpool for the last 20 years - still waiting.

However, based on my normal actions when faced with road rage incidents, I'd probably just sit in the car looking in the opposite direction to the aggressor. I can repair the car, but my body is the body of a god* and I can't replace most of that.

I suppose this is now the easiest way to get a car as it doesn't require any technical skills to override the ignition, imobiliser, tracker, etc. and doesn't require them having to 'hook' the keys through the letterbox.

people are cnuts. glad it worked out okay. pity she couldn't have gotten the licence plate but i'm sure she was too busy getting out of there. good work though.

Did you phone the police on this? I am sure they wouldnt be interest unless they had some similar incidents locally. CCTV may help them.

Thankfully never been in such a situation myself and glad Mrs CJ got away from it. First thing i do before starting the car is lock the doors. Its a sad world we live in!

Cheers guys. I'm actually surprised how well she behaved in the situation and to some extent the luck of it. I think she would probably be more frighntened of me if we lost the car than the criminals

OK so she's aware of the mock 'bump' accident and is probably well alert, but we live in a reasonable area and so wrongly don't expect it. That said reasonable area equates to better cars.

Ah well it's only a car and she's way more valuable

Thats not good and I'm sure it was quite an experience not to be repeated. Glad the Mrs is ok. As common sense states, cars can be replaced, people cannot. :)

As stated above, may be worth reporting this to the Police which may in turn prevent it from happening to someone else. It is indeed likely there will be nearby CCTV footage that can be used to trace the suspects.

I'll get her to report it AM, although it's likely futile and didn't actually commit the crime, depsite being clear in what they were planning. The cctv is a good point and should be covering the area

Dreadful stuff, really glad that the result was OK and all are safe. I know first hand what it feels like to have a car stolen, and can only imagine how much worse it would be in a jacking situation as potentially arose above.

I'm always aware of how I drive defensively in traffic scenarios. E.g. never pull up too close to the car infront, give yourself space to be able to pull away quickly if you need to (i.e. dont block yourself in). Stay in gear or ready to move off etc... Watch out for the 'fake bump' scenarios etc.

Maybe sounds over the top but its a habit I've picked up and never discount the scenario happening... :x I think its something anyone with a performance cars should be aware of...

I have just got back from South Africa and this sort of thing is all too common. When you approach a red traffic light you hang back in case someone is waiting to jump out and smash the window with a spark plug! It really is a sign of the times that this sort of thing is happening over here now... as time goes on it is just going to get worse.

I wonder who the first forum member will be to fit smash proof glass onto their zed :(

Glad the missus is ok... hope she's not too shaken up

Glad to hear she came through and the trusty Zed came to her aide and carried her to safety. Scary things people do these days! Nice to hear both came through unscathed, and agree with other posters here, they should be used as crash test dummies and swine vaccine testers when caught, then shot!

Thank God Ms cj is ok and that the spot in front was not occupied! Is this a bad area? I'd be letting her drive the jeep if she needs to go back there and let them try and bump that!

Glad to hear that Mrs CJ is fine. She deserves a big "ATTA GIRL" for being observant and for keeping her head about her. Almost doesn't count, but it can sure scare you at times.

Sounds like perhaps they saw the car and figured they could get some money from her. I'm glad to hear that she's in good health and that nothing harmful occurred in this bad situation.

This happened to me last year but I was very nearly hit.Luckily the lights changed just in time and I sped away. Needless to say it's not a nice experience and i'm glad she's ok.

I contacted the police and whilst they agreed it looked suspcious like a potential car jacking, as no actual crime had taken place nothing could be done. However, there it gets logged if more events occur it may help some unfortunate soul.

If these people spent as much time studying and working hard as they do stealing, scheming and increasing their tribes the world would be a better place.

Glad Mrs CJ is OK. You need to take her for a nice meal after that! Mat's right, they carjackers didn't actually do anything so the Police probably wouldn't be able to act. Chances are they've got a record for this sort of thing anyway.

It's unusual for a 2 seater to be a target as gangs usually prefer 4 seats. One reason why I won't have a hot hatch. Unless it's being stolen to order for ringing. Like MMM5 I've lived in and around Liverpool all my life so always have this sort of thing in the back of my mind. Especially when driving through certain areas of the city! Touch wood never had any abuse or any threat to steal happen yet :)
