I've seen a few of Lee's posts on PH and can confirm he wasn't the greatest fan! They're nice cars but I couldn't look past a C63 if I were considering a M3.
I agree

I think as a daily driver the C63 would certainly reward for more of the time, the engine sounds sweeter imo & the torque increase in the C63 is better suited to a daily driver rather than a car like the M3 that has its max power at 8300rpm the high rev motor would be great on a track when you can cohsistently keep it above 6k but as a daily driver its hard to stay up that high on the revs as you are by 100mph in no time. :driving:

I need to stop slating the E92 M3 as I will start losing friends from all the fan boys!!

I cant wait for the next one though slightly more power 110ft/ibs more torque around 100kgs lighter & fitted with brakes capable of slowing it down properly & plus its tuneability so on paper the next one sounds mouth watering. :driving:

Lovely selection of alternatives

A friend of mine swapped his Cerbera for a SLK 55 AMG & he has been very happy with it.

Thought you were more of a Rover 620 person now Lee as you have moved to an "old man " status with regards to your car driving  :poke:

Lee - off topic but what do you think to your 330i?
Really happy with it to be honest it has enough power to use everyday & its an impressively smooth engine & as an allrounder it fits the bill very well for me, admitted its down on power/performance to some of the cars I have owned but I think its a happy medium for now...until I have enough cash for a R35 GTR one day hopefully! :driving:

We had a E90 330d for 6 years & over 150k miles so I know they do a job very well but I didn't really need a diesel as I only do 10/12 thousand miles a year at the minute so I stuck with the petrol.

While I had my M3 I always thought what does it actually offer over a 330i/335i/335d as a daily driver & the answer isn't very much hence why I made the swap, I do miss a limited slip diff though a little as they do make the M cars that bit more enjoyable.

Cheers :)

Sorry to change topic guys, but Lee how did the m3 compare to your z4 mr?
Would you have another z4 mr?
The Z4M had more of a sense of occasion to it only having the two seats & I liked the way you were sat over the rear wheels it gave you a good feel of the road & obviously the S54 engine is a very high point of the car & it felt more alive at lower revs than the V8 in the M3 did, the Z4M is a more exciting drive overall although I felt the chassis in the M3 was quite a big improvement over the Z4M in terms of ride & to me it felt more resolved.

I wouldn't have another Z4MR as I have realised i am a Coupe man at heart although I would certainly love to own a Z4MC at some point as I just love the shape & with hindsight I do wish I had gone with the Coupe in the first place.

The Z4M is a very exciting raw car to drive in a good way but the M3 did give more confidence when pushing on I felt.

Hope this helps :)

Ok, so almost bought an E92 M3 tonight. 2010, mid mileage, bargain price (c.£8k under list price). However dodgy service history (missing history), and guy is moving to an offshore work post so needs rid of. I know the guy is moving offshore as he's a friend of a friend, so it wasn't a bullshit excuse for sale.

I walked away. I don't want a car with nasty service history. It was black, nice spec, massive V8 under the bonnet etc etc.

In some respects, I wish I had gone for it. Sure the history wasn't there, but it was a friend of a friend, no apparent faults etc. I think it has now sold to someone else :(

Was I daft to turn it down? I think I have missed a bargain, but was too concerned about resale/damage potential with missed history....

Tell me I was right, as I am kicking myself :headbang:

I think it's always best to sleep on a decision like purchasing a car, I've often put deposit's down and changed my mind later :)

You did the right thing to walk away from the purchase. With a relatively high mileage car you need to have complete confidence in its history otherwise it will burn you. I recently had to have 2 throttle actuators replaced luckily under warranty as the parts cost alone was insane. So do your homework before you purchase, it will benefit you immensely in the long run to get a dealership warranty covered car. I wouldn't buy an E92 M3 without going over it with a fine tooth comb.

Performance/usability wise it is a fantastic machine, very usable as a daily driver and has a fantastically capable chassis. IMHO I cant understand people who think the car is sluggish, numb and lifeless, they obviously haven't had the opportunity to exploit its performance. Yes around town in low revs it can feel 'heavy' at times but that's the beauty of it and reflects its usability as a daily driver. The E92 M3 has to be driven, if your a person who wants to potter about and have a car that flatters your driving its not for you, you will not get the most out of the engine or chassis.

People often forget the development that goes into an M3, thinking its just a tweaked 3 series, the below is quite a nice insight. Absolutely without doubt one of the best v8 coupes ever.

Depends, spend a little money on an independent assessment should highlight any potential problems, which if came to light, weigh up the cost to put right, so may still have been a bargain. Cars with a full history can still bite. Risk you take with any second hand motor outside of warranty. Agree the risk is potentially more without evidence its been looked after.

Tim.,

Not sure I'd buy an M car without a warranty tbh. I know many people say they have never needed it, but when they break they cost serious money, right ? Mate of mine has an M5, shortly after he bought it the gearbox went, and something to do with the rear axle went as well (maybe the diff, not sure) - the bill was about £21k :o but fortunately the warranty covered it.

Black holes in the service history often means neglect, either in the car's service or its day to day treatment. Detailed inspections wont show that!

You did right to walk away and you will know when the right one comes along!
