nearly bought a one way ticket the other day..

That's the normal reaction, many years ago I came off my bike In black ice and as I skidded along side my bike for about 200 yards, all I was thinking was.. I hope my bike isn't too damaged. :D I then had to get back on my bike and carry on riding home..

Strange how we think like that but when you have worked dam hard to purchase a nice car or bike its only natural

yup,, but i think its a bloke think.. many years ago i was out christmas eve and a fella ran a red light and totalled my car- i was gutted, my girl wanted me to abandon my car there and then and carry on to the event we were going to.. i changed my girl shortly after.

They only had 100ish Bhp They would have been real ditch finders with the 300 bhp in today’s cars!

To be fair Mantas might have only had about 100 bhp, but my Capris had 160 bhp and "narrow" 205 section tyres - they were both 2.8 Injections!

I agree the cars of those days did need opposite lock quite often - and we coped (mostly ) but the 340bhp and the big torque a lot of our cars have would be a real handful without the electronic gismos they fit today.
I had a 3.0 Capri with a fancy cam/heads/manifolds - I remember it being a real old handful on its skinny rubber and simple drivetrain with zero driver aids.

Well my previous track car was a 3 series, and i must say the z4 is a lot snappier, the back end steps out quickly and it requires lightning reflexes to catch it. By comparison the 3 series was big and lazy, the back stepped out so slowly my nan could have held a nice slide in it!

It feels more "snappy" because you're sat much closer to the rear wheels so any movement feels like a big slide

One of the biggest improvements going from my 2003 3.0 to my M was losing the Bridgestone runflats (poor grip in cooler temperatures) and having more control from the LSD. Had a few moments where the 3.0 open diff would light up one wheel and slew the car in a random direction - not at all progressive. The LSD seems to stop that quite well (but still less easy to slide than my 200sx did  )
