Near to buying a Z4M roadster...

Well the red one in Sutton coldfield is a big no.
It hasn't had a brake fluid change in over 4 years.
It had overspray on one of the wheel arches.
Covered in swirl marks. Not presented well at all.
The service book was present, but no receipts or any other paperwork.
The seller said there was no movement on price.
The blue one at lotus silverstone is an even bigger no.
Dented and deep scratches through the paint. All wheels are scuffed and its had damage to the underside of the car which means it has needed a new exhaust etc.
however, this one drove a lot better than the red one, but one of the calipers seazed up on the test drive.
The dealer also said there was no movement on price.
Absolutely a wasted day.
We were ready to buy and these are terrible examples for the price and they are kidding themselves if they think someone will buy at that price.

Am very pleased to read this after ringing up about the imola one again and thought i would see if you had seen it so saved me having to view it, at the money should be better than that, the chap I just spoke to on the phone went through the service history and it seems the intervals were 20k miles apart twice which is high really and confirmed what i thought I remembered when enquiring originally.

Lets not look at it as a wasted day (hard as it is), you have gained some more experience and got to help others

I actually purchased the only M I've ever driven, not sure if that was a wise move but it seems to be spot on and I love it.
If I find anything I will post a link on here, do you have an area you will travel within and a budget etc.

Unless you are really lucky be prepared for more wasted time and days. I spent six months and travelled over 1,000 miles looking at so called 'mint' cars which were far from that description. What I took away from that was you will definitely know a good one when you see it. This is not a car to rush into buying and the right one will turn up in time.
Popey: budget is 13k really. So have been looking up to £14k, in the expectation of haggling or spending a bit more for the perfect one.
Will travel up to about 150 miles I guess.
Two more have gone up for sale today so will give them a call.
Wanted to buy from a trader to get the warranty, but starting to think about looking privately now after seeing those two shockers.
It's got to be perfect.
My current z4 3.0 is 2004 and the bodywork and history is spotless. So if I'm going for something newer, I expect it to be in as good condition as the one I'm selling at least.
These are 'm' cars and should be looked after well by enthusiasts.

I think with cars like this, you need to be prepared to travel a lot further, should the correct one come up...
maybe coming from Glasgow I need to as everything I seem to want is down south, but I have no issues buying a car from London (for example)

It's a shame about the red one being a shutter as the trader offered us good money for ours as part ex, where as the other traders aren't really interested in it.
We ere offered £6k, which I would have taken, so now my car is up for sale on here.
I haven't listed it on pistonheads or AT yet though.

Unfortunatley the trouble is at £13kish you are gonna be limited on good cars. I looked at both private and garage cars and they were all pretty much the same. It seems only people on here really look after their cars and see them as something special most of the general public see it as a normal car to pick up dings and catch the front bumper on speed bumps/curbs etc. one will come along but you have to be patient.

Why can't people just be honest when advertising?
Then they wouldn't be wasting their own time having people come to view a car and go away annoyed.

I don't want to buy a car at a higher price and find that if circumstances change in a year, that its impossible to shift unless taking a huge loss.
There are so many threads on here saying anything about £14k is overpriced

I looked at 43 cars once... all 'cherished' etc etc....
it's a nightmare.... but all I can say is try not to let it bother you on the next one.... I've had bad girlfriends in the past, but it never put me off kissing more ladies....
hope you find something soon.... and remember, this is a decent forum, so maybe if you see one far away, ask a local member to have a look at it for you????
if one pops up in Glasgow, I would have no issues looking it over... I'll even take my paint reader too.... :devil:

See the thread from in the week regarding prices and the gulf developing between the lower end with 5 owners and 60k+ miles with battle scars for £11,000 to the 2 owner and under 30k miles priced in the area of £16k upwards. Fact is there aren't many cars you don't lose money on and they are a depreciating asset. The ones that sit on the market for ages, sit there for a reason there is something wrong with them in line with their price. As I said on the other thread, myself, jonny, Stuart and popey all bought low owner highly speccd cars all sub 25k miles at around the 16/17k mark.
There's another imola one just gone up on AT, no nav but looks decent - at least the pics are better quality. Ruby Black one too, individual interior (so no ///M embossed on the head rests - I know, but the little things matter...) and it comes with what looks like a merlot red hard top :?
just out of interest...what's wrong with the yellow one on AT... I quite like that colour...
