Navigation update

Good afternoon folks, I used my sat nav for the first time in ages. There were a few glitches when I went on some new roads and on checking the map version its clear that its not been updated since original purchase in 2016. Any recommendations for map suppliers, unsurprisingly BMW is asking far more than other suppliers, for pretty much the same thing.

Regards

Chris

Posting links to unofficial updates is not allowed on this forum so you may be out of luck.

Excellent news. Mine wasn’t and the maps were from 2009. I did find an unofficial update which worked OK so they are now 2018 which is a lot better.

Actually I've just found that my second hand vehicle is still covered by BMW connected drive, phew : )!

Do they have the same type of sat nav unit..there have been several versions?

The Z4 only ever came with the CIC nav. Quite lucky really as the CCC nav was clunky and the NBT that came after was more of a cost saving exercise than an upgrade.

It wasn't clear (to me) that his other vehicle was an E89 Z4?

I won’t get het up about latest software - the odd new road doesn’t normally cause a problem. Ok it looks like you’re in a field driving down the A1 but new roads and the exits are normally well signposted.

You could change the iDrive screen for the Android touchscreen, you'd still have all your current features you have now but with the added bonus of moden sat nav (as well as a whole host of other features!!) Just a thought...... group buy coming tonight  :driving:

Apparently there is a firmware upgrade for the 2009 navigation system which when done it should have an “i” with a tick in the bottom left corner (see photo) When done it should enable full post code search and enable map update through the USB port in the glove box. Mine will only update using 3 DVD’s. The BMW independent I use can’t do it so I may have to talk to the main dealer. However I am in no rush as I updated my maps to 2018 and I can live with it for now.

How much were you quoted by BMW? I got the maps updated last month in my 2015 E89 at my local BMW dealer for £35. Seemed like a bargain so I didn’t question the price!
