Navigation maps - colours etc

Hi everyone

When test driving my new car yesterday (haven't taken delivery yet) I noticed that the satnav screen took a few minutes to get up to full brightness (not worried about this) but the map colours looked a bit odd to me.

The maps (and firmware I guess) are the 2003 ones (DVD nav) never updated.

The map looked kind of green / brown and not that easy to read. Is this normal for that age of map?

I know it's not the screen as when I selected the computer or DSP or tv functions it was nice and bright and all the colours were as I'd expect.

I had a e46 330d with nav and I had the latest firmware and maps when I had it (2010 and v32) and I remember the maps being fine - light brown / bright and clear.

Is this just a simple 'update the firmware and maps' thing or something else funny?

Edit - it looks a bit like in this photo (which looks dark), does the firmware update this to be a better colour combo?

There are two color scheme on the nav. I always used the blue one on my last as the brown one looked wrong. However the brown one looks better than the blue one in the ///M.

Also if the lights are on the display will be darker which could be why it was dark for you.

ahh yes probably as i know we had the lights on when we test drove too. Good point

hi. how do you get the brown scheme. thanks

is the text at least white?

If the text isn't white, the screen is having problems. Collision place broke the housing on my screen once so it didn't open any more, they replaced it with a used part and the screen had like a brownish/green hue to everything. other than it looking horrible from the get go, the text not being white was the biggest give away of all and some how this place didn't think that was a problem....

In the settings menu from memory.

If not from the main menu where Nav, phone, DSP, TV and aothers are listed press and hold menu for 8 seconds.
