what up, ya'll

so i just came up on an '03 z4 6-speed smg and she's a beautiful baby. i'm in love with her.. but anywaise... enough with the emotional stuff.

i really wanted to take it into the dealership and see if they could possibly install a navigation system on it. i know they can install an ipod adapter and also add the bluetooth stuff to my car, but.. i really want the navi. can they do that?

It i s always possible from the dealer, but expect high dollars for a retrofit of this sort (Navi)

I retrofitted mine - costs was about 1000 USD for all parts and took about 8 hours in total. 6 hours of which was cutting the hole in the dash ...

The cabling is all plug and play, so that is very simple to instal.

mystik, welcome to the forum...
When you have a minute why don't you go to the "newbie" forum where you can introduce yourself and post a picture of your Zed... :camera:

I would think its pretty labour intensive due to the dash work, but bluetooth and MP3 compatibility are separate
Nice car, but whats a Z4 SMG? Z4s don't come with SMG do they?

Early models came with an SMG option. I think the option was withdrawn after 2003...don't know why... :idunno:

Thats SSG as seen on the 330 though isn't it? Only Ms have the SMG I /II / III systems?

Either way I see what you mean!

Bloody BMW and their naming conventions. I have done some digging...you are correct, the Z4 variant is 'SMG' as fitted to the E36 M3 and BMW 330, but I am also right as this is where it is named SSG LOL. It has the same paddles and gear knob as a 330 SSG and the software is by Magneti Marelli.

From about 03 BMW was selling the E46 330 with SSG option (the old SMG as fitted to Z4s and the E36 M3) and the E46 M3 with SMG option (actually SMG II). SMG II is by Sachs and Siemens and is completely different. These are all now being superceded by SMG III (M6,M5,etc).

Phew! Sorry to go off topic...
