Nav unit fell apart at the seams!

Hi, help.

Today, probably related to hitting a bump to hard, the nav unit didn't pop up fully and needed assistance to get to the top.

Then noticed it's split at the join. Boo.

Here it is as far as it can make under its own steam.

Doesn't appear terminal as it's making all the right noises etc, but any ideas on how to take it apart - it's not 'clipping' back together so I'm guessing i need to somehow access the unit in its entirety to place necessary pressure.

Thanks in advance.

Same as mine.
I havent bothered getting around to addressing it for over a year now as i never use it anyway.

Hi mate

I had a previous one apart which someone had butchered.

Best thing is get it out and get it re secured may need a drop of superglue

Take rear plastic off which exposes 3 screws. The other screws are behind the grill so that needs to come out as well

Thanks for replies. I'll whip it out as instructed but am cautious to use anything as permanent as superglue.

I'd rather just find out why it's failed and fix in a more "that's the manufacturer's way"

Rest of car is kept original at great expense, so will try to keep that way! Surely it must simply clip back together? #naive.

Thanks again.

Depends how bad the clips are- if they are goosed you may have little option…

I think all of the Z4 and X3 popup nav units are destined to break thanks to the combination of UVs, Heat, and movement.

Mine broke several years ago, and when I disassembled it, I found that that the motor mounts and a couple of pegs that hold the case together broke, so I had no choice but to glue them back in place. At first I tried Superglue but that didn't last long and I had to take things apart, scrape off the superglue and try again. Turns out superglue doesn't work well on ABS plastics and ended up using a 2 part epoxy made for plastics (search for J-B Weld PlasticWeld). Since it was inside the case hidden, you couldn't see the glue so I didn't care the glue didn't dry clear.

The good news is that it's been 7 years and it's still holding :)
The bad news is that nav trim around the dash developed a crack recently :(

Now I have to find another solution that will be less visible.
